Cairo-based technical lighting artist crafts stunning Icelandic canyon in Unreal Engine 5
Karim Yasser, a Technical Lighting Artist based in Cairo, has recently demonstrated their remarkable talent in digital environment creation with the unveiling of "Gljúfur," a real-time environment inspired by the majestic canyons of Iceland.
Developed in Unreal Engine 5, Yasser's project showcases a stunning and immersive depiction of natural landscapes, meticulously crafted using the Quixel Megascans library and Quixel Trees.
To enhance the scene's realism and depth, Yasser developed custom shaders for the moss, effectively pushing the quality of the visual presentation.
Yasser, who is an Unreal Authorized Instructor Partner for Epic Games, has effectively utilized their expertise in lighting, environment design, texturing, and color grading to bring "Gljúfur" to life.
Their ability to apply principles of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) and PBL (Physically Based Lighting) is evident in the strikingly realistic and atmospheric environment they have created.
The addition of fog cards from Easy Fog further enriches the scene, adding layers of depth and ambiance that capture the essence of Iceland's rugged and serene landscapes.
Karim's work on "Gljúfur" not only highlights their proficiency with various software tools like Unreal Engine, DaVinci Resolve, Photoshop, Maya, Substance 3D Painter, Substance 3D Designer, World Creator, and Gaea but also underscores their artistic vision and attention to detail.
Indeed, this project stands as a testament to Yasser's skill in blending technical expertise with creative expression, producing an environment that transports viewers to the heart of Iceland's natural beauty.
