Bethesda’s Todd Howard has revealed the studio's goal of creating "the ultimate fantasy-world simulator" with The Elder Scrolls VI using the Creation Engine 2, and that it may have been announced too soon.
The details:
- In an interview with GQ, Howard was asked about his plans for the next installment of the critically acclaimed franchise. He said he didn't want to answer the question for an unspecified reason, but he did say that the studio is aiming to make the next mainline Elder Scrolls title the "ultimate fantasy-world simulator," and that there are "different ways to accomplish that given the time that has passed.”
- The ES6 was announced in 2018, and very little information about the project, which will be its next major release after Starfield, has been revealed since then. However, we do know that it will be built with the second version of the Creation Engine, which means it will benefit from Starfield mechanics additions. Howard also stated in 2021 that the game was still in its "design phase," and that each new release on the engine will have "new suites of technology" required for new features.
- In a 2022 interview with IGN, the producer admitted that he wished the game had been released sooner than planned, and that he believed it had been announced too soon, causing fans to get excited for a game that was still more than a half-decade away. “Would you plan to have the kind of gap we’re having between Skyrim and the follow-up? I can’t say that’s a good thing,” Howard said. “That being said, everything takes longer than we would like as well, but we want to make sure that we get it right. Hopefully Elder Scrolls 6, you don’t want to say hey, that it’s worth that kind of wait, but that it does stand up to the series as it has been in a really big, impactful way for when it comes out.”
More gaming news:
- The PlayStation titles MediEvil and Days Gone may be adapted into TV shows or films, according to the PlayStation Productions website, which features the games' protagonists alongside Kratos, Aloy, and Nathan Drake.
- Xbox head Phil Spencer stated that he would "love to find solutions" to the possibility of hundreds of Xbox 360-era titles being lost to time when the Xbox 360 storefront closes in July 2024. Currently, approximately 220 titles will be rendered unplayable following the closure as they have not been ported to other platforms.
