Hideki Kamiya, vice president and co-founder of PlatinumGames, announced his departure from the company in October after having worked there since its founding in 2006.

The details:

  • The co-founder's departure was announced in a statement posted to PlatinumGames' X account, which revealed that his last day at the company will be October 12, 2023. “We regret to announce that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023. We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership, and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day,” the statement reads. “We believe that he will continue to succeed in his future endeavors as a game creator. We are looking forward to seeing the game industry grow into a better place with him in it. We wish him all the best for the future!”
  • Kamiya followed up the announcement with a post to his personal account, stating that the decision was not taken lightly, came after “a lot of consideration based on [his] own beliefs,” and was “by no means an easy decision to make.” The VP also indicated that he will not be leaving the industry, telling fans that he will "continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way" and that he hopes fans will keep an eye out for a future announcement.
  • Kamiya co-founded PlatinumGames with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, who previously worked with him at Capcom on Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. Since then, the company has released several critically acclaimed titles such as Metal Gear Rising, Vanquish, Nier: Automata, and its Bayonetta series, all of which have built up dedicated fanbases thanks to their fast-paced action gameplay inherited from Devil May Cry.
