Baldur's Gate 3 may receive a physical Xbox release soon
Larian Studios has hinted that its hit RPG Baldur's Gate 3 may finally be coming to the Xbox Series X/S, with a physical edition in the works.
The details:
Larian announced last night on X that Baldur's Gate 3 has been nominated for several Game Awards categories, including Best Game Direction, Best Community Support, and the big one, Game of the Year. Toward the end of the post, the studio wrote, "Xbox fans, and fans of physical media, watch this space for a formal announcement. It's going to be a busy week,” implying that the game will finally arrive on the console alongside a physical version very soon.
Due to technical issues encountered during the port's development, the game, which was released on PC in August and PS5 in September, has yet to arrive on Microsoft's console. Although the title performed as expected on the Series X, the weaker Series S struggled with its local multiplayer mode, prompting Larian to delay the port due to Microsoft's recommendation that both consoles share the same features.
Last month, Larian provided an update on the Xbox version, confirming that it will still be released in 2023, though the Series S version will lack support for split-screen co-op multiplayer.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently only available digitally, but given Larian's teaser for a physical version, it's likely that it'll be more than just a standard disc copy of the game, such as a limited edition of sorts for the game's most dedicated fans.
