According to Ubisoft, the launch of Assassin's Creed Mirage was the most successful new-gen launch in franchise history in terms of unit sales, with comparable numbers to previous entries such as Origins and Odyssey.
The details:
- Ubisoft has posted a message on the Assassin's Creed X account thanking fans for playing and supporting the game and celebrating the game's highly successful launch. "Assassin's Creed Mirage has been out for six days now and we are thrilled by the love and positivity we have received over the last week,” reads the statement. "Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey that celebrates, honours and builds upon the 15-year legacy of the Assassin's Creed series. We could not have been happier that our back to the roots experience has been embraced by the community.”
- The message also revealed that the launch was the most successful of the franchise's new-gen releases, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S player numbers "in line with past successful launches such as Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Odyssey." It's worth noting that Mirage, developed by Ubisoft's Bordeaux studio, was significantly less costly than the more expensive Origins and Odyssey, both of which featured large open worlds.
- Mirage is billed as a "love letter" to the series' earlier entries, with gameplay returning to the classic loop of sneaking around to assassinate targets and climbing across rooftops, rather than the RPG style of recent titles. Mirage's style was inspired by the original Assassin's Creed, with the ability to toggle a visual filter to make the game look more like the 2008 title, as well as sharing a similar theme.
