A physical copy of the upcoming Armored Core 6 appears to have revealed that up to six players, along with three spectators, are supported in PvP multiplayer.
The details:
- Reddit user u/EntertainmentMission posted what they claimed was a photo of the back of the game's box taken in Japan, revealing previously unknown details about the title's multiplayer mode. The box states that it will have 2-6 player modes, but another area of the box states that players will be able to spectate matches: "Supports up to 6 players. Up to 9 people, including spectators, can participate at the same time." It's still unclear whether the game will support crossplay.
- It's still unclear whether the game will include co-op in any way, too, but this could indicate that the game will have a 3v3 team-based mode, rather than the 5v5 of Armored Core V. Given that this is the first entry in the series since 2012, we may see FromSoftware, or at least the community, experiment with grassroots esports, especially given that fellow mecha title Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs is arguably the biggest fighting game in Japan.
- The game will be released on August 25 for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC, and promises to include "fast-paced battles, in-depth customization, and thrilling boss fights," as well as sticking to its roots rather than incorporating "souls-like" elements from FromSoft's more recent releases. So far, we've received a gameplay trailer and a few details, including the fact that players can fully customize their mech, swapping out and changing practically every part.
More gaming news:
- Bandai Namco has announced that Gundam Evolution, its first-person shooter title, will be shut down one year after its initial release. The game received a mixed reaction after its release due to its heavy reliance on microtransactions, which led to many players abandoning the game shortly after.
- Activision Blizzard has laid off approximately 50 employees from its esports division, leaving fans to wonder what will become of its competitive Overwatch and Call of Duty leagues in the future. Before the layoffs, the company was working on new tools to run tournaments, and it has been suggested that esports will be handled by an external contractor in the future.
