A pitch video for a LEGO game based on the legendary 007 film franchise has surfaced online, providing fans with a glimpse of what iconic James Bond moments would have looked like in LEGO form.

The details:

  • As spotted by Eurogamer, a 47-second long teaser created by TT Games was uploaded to a Discord server before being mirrored on YouTube and the r/legogaming subreddit. The video depicts a number of scenes from Bond films such as Live and Let Die and A View to a Kill recreated in LEGO with basic animation and detail, as it was only meant to be used as an internal pitch for the idea.

  • Many people assumed that the 007 teaser was related to LEGO Dimensions, with the idea that the IP would appear in the crossover title before it was scrapped in favor of Mission: Impossible or because the game did not receive a third year of content. However, LEGO video game historian LEGOGameMuseum clarified that a Dimensions developer stated that the pitch was for a standalone title presented to The LEGO Group and that it was discovered in a build of Dimensions as it was being created at the same time.

  • The user went on to say that The LEGO Group vetoed the project because of its violent content and sexual innuendos. "Characters called Pussy Galore and Plenty O'Tool wouldn't really work in a family-friendly Lego game,” LEGOGameMuseum explained. “Although I'm sure TT could make it work. TLG these days seems more willing to try different things in games, so it could potentially be revisited, the biggest barrier for TT would be WB forcing them to stick to owned IP."

  • IPs with more mature and controversial themes, such as Indiana Jones, which includes the Nazi Party in Raiders of the Lost Ark, have received the LEGO treatment in the past with some necessary censorship changes. While the same could have been done with the 007 series, it relies heavily on the use of firearms and other dangerous weapons, which may have caused issues in regards to how the game could be censored.
