Paradox Interactive is looking for a Content Designer for its newest Grand Strategy studio in Barcelona, Spain. About the studio

The new Paradox Barcelona studio is the latest addition to the Paradox studio family; building on our experience of building Paradox Development Studio and developing great Grand Strategy games. In the future, the studio will be the custodian and developer of the Europa Universalis brand, the game that started it all twenty years ago.

At the Paradox Barcelona studio we work in a small, gameplay focused team, where everyone is part of crafting the player experience and has an input on the design of the game. We believe that game development should be fun and strive for a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere. Being a small studio built from the ground up, we expect everyone to contribute to the development of the studio and its culture; as one of the original members, you will have a significant impact on what the studio grows up to become.

About the Role

As a Content Designer on our team, you will be focused on designing, scripting, researching and writing engaging game content and script based mechanics. Your work will have a direct and influential impact on the quality and feel of the game.

We are looking for developers passionate for creating exciting experiences for our players. It’s important that you enjoy working in a team where everyone supports each other and work together on the game, and also that you are motivated by having the freedom and responsibility to take charge of a task and deliver. You care about the end result and you’re motivated by giving our many passionate fans a great player experience.

Responsibilities

Designing and implementing short narratives as well as other types of content for various gameplay systems
Writing text for in-game content in (American) English that thematically fits within the game
Scripting game logic, game databases, and branching narratives using our in-house scripting language
Engaging in research on related topics to find inspiration for crafting entertaining content that creates memorable gaming experiences
Taking ownership of tasks and working independently to ensure quality and timely delivery in coordination with the other Content Designers
Defining audiovisual asset needs and communicating them to the producer and art and audio departments

Qualifications

Experience with or interest in code-based scripting
Fluent in English with an excellent command of written American English
Passion for strategy games and game development
Professional experience in narrative design or game design is considered an advantage
Modding games, especially Paradox Development Studio games, is considered an advantage
Familiarity with Paradox Grand Strategy games is considered an advantage
An interest in history is considered an advantage
