Senior Backend Engineer in Shared Tech

As a Senior Backend Engineer in Shared Tech, you’ll build and evolve backend services and platform capabilities that help power King’s live games at massive scale. You’ll solve complex technical problems, improve systems that serve millions of players, and help shape reliable, secure, high-performance services used across the Kingdom. You’ll work closely with engineers and partners across teams, using your technical judgment to drive solutions, improve ways of working, and contribute to products and platforms with clear impact.

Your Role Within the Kingdom

Design, build, and evolve backend services, platform features, and internal tooling that support live games, developer workflows, and core service operations.
Lead complex technical problems from design through delivery, using sound engineering judgment to create secure, scalable, reliable solutions.
Improve backend architecture, engineering practices, and development processes so teams can move faster and build with confidence.
Collaborate with game teams, infrastructure partners, and other engineers across Shared Tech to support new functionality, platform improvements, and operational excellence.
Contribute across the full lifecycle of services and systems, including implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
Share knowledge, support peers, and lead through technical expertise, helping others solve problems and raise the quality of the team’s output.

You’ll typically work with a modern backend stack centered on Java and backend frameworks, alongside databases, caching, APIs, CI/CD workflows, test automation, and cloud technologies such as Google Cloud Platform. Depending on the team, you may also work with technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes, Gradle, Terraform, React, observability tooling, and real-time or streaming systems.

Experience

Strong experience building and operating backend systems in Java, including services or platforms that need high reliability and performance.
Experience working with scalable systems, distributed architectures, or high-traffic environments where concurrency and performance matter.
Experience contributing across the full software lifecycle in a cloud-based or DevOps-oriented environment, ideally with Google Cloud Platform.

Knowledge & Skills

Strong knowledge of backend engineering fundamentals, including API design, databases, caching, testing, code quality, and object-oriented design.
Good understanding of scalability, concurrency, performance tuning, and the challenges of large-scale systems.
Confidence working with engineering tooling and modern delivery practices such as CI/CD, automation, containerized environments, and cloud infrastructure.
