Unreal Engine VFX Artist (Mobile Military Shooter)
iBLOXX Studios is looking for a talented Unreal Engine VFX Artist to help build our upcoming multiplayer mobile shooter. You will create grounded, military-style real-time visual effects that deliver impactful, readable combat while meeting the strict performance demands of mobile devices.
Please note: This is a part-time, fully remote position. We welcome applications from anywhere in the world, provided you can maintain a reasonable overlap with our core working hours in the Dubai (GST / UTC+4) time zone.
What You Will Do
• Create realistic military combat VFX: muzzle flashes, tracers, shell ejections, bullet impacts across surface types, explosions, smoke grenades, dust and debris, and environmental destruction.
• Build real-time VFX for weapons, gameplay events, UI, and loot/reward moments.
• Author and optimize Niagara systems specifically for Android and iOS hardware tiers, from low-end to flagship devices.
• Profile and optimize particle counts, shader complexity, material instructions, texture memory, overdraw, and draw calls using Unreal Insights, RenderDoc, and on-device profiling.
• Implement scalable VFX quality settings (LODs, culling, pooling, effect scalability tiers) to hit stable frame rates across a wide device range.
• Ensure combat effects remain readable on small screens without sacrificing performance budgets.
• Collaborate with Art, Gameplay, Animation, and Audio to create polished, responsive combat feedback.
What We Are Looking For
• Professional game VFX experience in Unreal Engine, ideally on a shipped mobile title.
• Strong technical command of Niagara, Unreal Materials, and HLSL/shader authoring.
• Proven, hands-on experience optimizing VFX for mobile: you understand overdraw costs, fill rate, mobile GPU architectures (tile-based rendering), texture compression formats (ASTC/ETC2), and CPU/GPU frame budgets.
• Experience profiling on actual devices and diagnosing performance issues, not just in-editor.
• A grounded, realistic VFX sensibility — reference-driven work matching real-world weapon and pyrotechnic behavior.
• Understanding of gameplay readability, VFX budgets, and fast-paced multiplayer combat.
• A strong portfolio showcasing real-time game VFX, ideally including mobile and/or military-style work.
Nice to Have
• Experience with effect pooling systems and networked/replicated VFX in multiplayer games.
• Familiarity with Blueprint or C++ for hooking VFX into gameplay systems.
