We are looking for an Associate Narrative Designer to join us and help continue delivering a long-running and beloved IP to our players, Plants vs. Zombies! This designer will report to the Associate Game Design Director who oversees the Game Design team on an upcoming Plants vs. Zombies mobile title. You will work directly with artists, animators, UX experts, product managers, and other designers. You will create fun and compelling narrative content that brings the world of Plants vs. Zombies to life. You have experience designing for mobile games with a focus on narrative and story design and a love of Plants vs. Zombies!

You will be fully remote with the option of hybrid work if located near an Electronic Arts office.

Responsibilities

  • Support the conception of engaging storylines that bring the Plants vs Zombies world and its cast of characters to life in a way that is appropriate and optimized for a mobile gaming experience and audience.

  • Build in-game cinematic cutscenes with proprietary tools directly in Unity.

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation that communicates your narrative concepts and requirements.

  • Compose fun, engaging, yet concise dialogue that spans a wide range of unique character voices.

  • Collaborate with art, animation, and other game designers to bring narrative ideas to execution in an efficient and effective manner.

  • Constructively critique design, receive feedback, and offer solutions to problems.

  • Advocate for new tools and process improvements to help develop Live Content.

Required Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience as a narrative designer in the video game industry on a title with a live services content cadence.

  • Experience creating writing, and designing narratives in any media, a bonus if in games.

  • Familiar with narrative-driven games and a passion for visual storytelling.

  • Understanding of the narrative tone of the Plants vs. Zombies franchise.

  • Comfortable working with multiple disciplines, including art, engineering, and production.

US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The hourly pay ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the hourly pay range for your specific location. EA has listed the hourly pay ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

HOURLY PAY RANGES

  • California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento): $31 - $47

  • New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo): $28 - $47

  • Jersey City, NJ: $28 - $47

  • Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs): $28 - $42

  • Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane): $28 - $42

The hourly rate is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby (following 1 year of service), medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.
