Julian Gerighty, the creative director of Star Wars Outlaws, has revealed some brand new details about the game's planets, including their sizes, as well as some background on the design of its protagonist.
The details:
- In a new interview with Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), Gerighty discussed the size of the game's various planets, revealing that the size of a single planet was equivalent to "about two of the zones in Assassin's Creed Odyssey," but that each would consist of around "two to three zones" rather than massive open worlds like Assassin's Creed Valhalla to make it "manageable" for both developers and players.
- According to the director, Ubisoft Massive "handcrafted" all of the game's planets and locations, adding that "we haven't procedurally generated an entire planet." This is in contrast to Bethesda's upcoming space RPG, Starfield, and Hello Games' No Man's Sky, both of which have heavily relied on procedural generation for their landscapes, with the developers creating select locations that are used to advance certain quests and contain story elements.
- During the same interview, Gerighty revealed that protagonist Kay Vess and her companion Nix were inspired by fellow outlaws Han Solo and Chewbacca. "It was the fantasy I connected with the most in the original [Star Wars] trilogy," said Gerighty. "As a kid, I was a much, much bigger Han Solo and Chewbacca fan than any of the others." The developer, on the other hand, hoped to make Vess more "relatable" by making her "more of a rookie, a petty thief, who ends up in a situation that's much bigger than they ever expected.β
Other upcoming games:
- It has been confirmed that Payday 3 will require an internet connection at all times to play, including the single-player modes. The reasoning behind the decision is said to be related to its use of Unreal Engine and cross-progression systems, though this has not been confirmed.
- Atlus is said to be working on several Persona titles, including Persona 6, Persona 5: The Phantom X, Persona Asa, and an unnamed fighting game. The fighting game is said to have been in development since 2015 and has taken several different paths over the years.
