TimeSplitters reboot reportedly started as a battle royale before becoming a remake
According to a former Free Radical Design developer, the now-defunct studio's TimeSplitters reboot began as a battle royale but later evolved into a TimeSplitters 2 remake with new content and changes.
The details:
Following Free Radical's closure last week, former developers on its TimeSplitters project have begun revealing details about the canceled game, with assets and concept art now appearing on Artstation profiles. Fans are now collecting character designs, weapons, locations, and artwork of other objects from the profiles and storing them in the community-run "Free Radical Archive" wiki.
In an interview with the wiki, an employee also revealed some details about the project's development, stating that it was originally intended to be a battle royale that rivaled Fortnite at the height of the genre's popularity. The developer stated that "nobody" wanted a TimeSplitters battle royale, including the studio's employees, but that they "didn't have much of a choice for a long time."
The project then did a "massive 180" at some point, according to the anonymous developer, making it "mostly" a TimeSplitters 2 remake with a couple of levels from its sequel, Future Perfect, a level from the first game, and some brand new sections. It was also stated that the game was still at least two years away and that this concept could change later on.
