Ubisoft Bordeaux
Founded in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux works with passion on the biggest AAA titles to deliver the best gaming experiences. Today, the studio is composed of 400 talents from 20 different nationalities, working on licenses such as Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and a free to play game, BattleCore Arena. At the same time, the studio has set up a Tech branch which works on all Ubisoft's online services (named Online Services) as well as on the Anvil game engine. Ubisoft Bordeaux is also home to a R&D team, La Forge, which brings together engineers and researchers to work together on prototypes for game production, particularly around AI topics.
Job Description
As a FX Artist and under the responsibility of the Lead FX Artist, you are in charge of designing and optimizing real-time environmental and gameplay FX.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create and implement special effects (VFX textures, animations, shaders, material creation) in accordance with the project's artistic direction and production deadlines
Design real-time special effects inspired by artistic concepts or references.
Provide VFX solutions that meet the game's needs artistically, technically, and from a game design perspective
Collaborate with game design teams to provide meaningful visual feedback for the player, as well as with programming teams to assess needs and improve the VFX production pipeline
Ensure the optimization and functionality of special effects while respecting the technical constraints imposed by the project
Ensure the proper integration of your VFX into the game engine
Maintain the artistic direction and quality
Create, communicate, and keep documentation up to date.
Qualifications
You have experience in creating real-time VFX (ideally on AA or AAA projects)
You have experience with a real-time game engine (Unreal Engine, Unity, or any other 3D engine) and are familiar with VFX editors like Niagara or VFX Graph
You are comfortable with real-time particle/dynamics systems. Creating textures (static or animated) is second nature to you, and you are also skilled in creating custom shaders and materials (in a node-based editor)
You have a good understanding of art fundamentals: color theory, lighting, shape, composition, etc
You have excellent communication skills that enable you to collaborate with other departments and act as a bridge between your areas of expertise to enhance gameplay, accessibility, and player experience
You are comfortable working in an English-speaking environment
