Rockstar North is on the lookout for an experienced Senior Technical Artist who possesses a passion for Technical Art to help develop and support our titles. This is a full-time permanent position based out of Rockstar’s unique game development studio in Edinburgh.

WHAT WE DO

  • Bring innovation and resolution to technical problems and challenges throughout Art - from content creation through to the game (across multiple platforms).

  • Create and maintain tools and pipelines that improve our Art workflows.

  • Provide general support for an ever-growing Art team and document/share solutions/knowledge with the wider team.

  • Proactively use knowledge and experience to identify and solve problems before they affect the Art team and our projects.

  • Work closely with fellow Technical Artists as part of a global team working on interconnected tools and systems.

  • Collaborate and communicate with other departments (aside from the Art department) such as Tools and Runtime (Engine) teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This is a Technical Artist position with a Dynamic Art specialism. This means the tasks, while varied, will relate mainly to Dynamic Art (characters/animals/vehicles/props/vegetation/rigging tools).

    • Note: This is not a regular Artist position, so the candidate won’t be doing any creation of artwork.

  • Creating and developing tools to help author and manage high quality and quantity of art in large open worlds.

  • Create standalone tools C# and integrate them with our Art pipeline.

  • Create tools within 3DS Max in Maxscript.

  • Assist setting up pipelines and writing tools to support them.

  • Setting up automated processes to propagate changes across a large number of assets.

  • Supporting the Art teams in their day-to-day work.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years professional experience in the game industry as a Technical Artist or similar/related position from industries such as film/VFX.

  • An online portfolio showing relevant examples of your work.

SKILLS

  • Experience using 3DS Max.

  • Strong knowledge of C# and/or Maxscript.

  • Experience using game engines (e.g. Unreal/Unity or proprietary tech).

  • Can demonstrate creativity and technical ability within the constraints of console development.

  • Strong team spirit and innate ability to collaborate closely with others.

  • Strong communication, planning and organizational skills.

  • Effective time management skills to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.

PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Familiarity working and developing in a multi-platform, multi-project environment.

  • Understanding in developing pipelines and creating efficient user interfaces.

  • Previous professional experience as an Artist or Rigger in games.

  • Knowledge of source control (such as Perforce or GIT) and working on code base collaboratively.
