As an Art Lead, Art Outsourcing at Riot Games, you will help connect product teams to the right external partners while improving art outsource infrastructure and practices. You will build meaningful and trusting relationships through clear two-way communication. Your approach will ensure sustainable production without compromising quality. A perfect blend between a veteran production artist and logistics expert, you will provide art direction and strive to make the outsourcing experience truly world-class and engaging for all parties involved.
As an Art Lead, Art Outsourcing on Project L, you will report to the Associate Art Director. You will collaborate with partners across all disciplines to ensure that the game's artistic vision is upheld, especially as it pertains to 3D character art. You will train embedded outsource managers how to best execute in the space. You’ll be responsible for maintaining relationships with external developers and other groups at Riot working with external development.
Responsibilities:
Support the scaling of content production through outsourcing and co-development
Establish relationships between external developers and the game teams
Create a consistent and healthy cadence of communication and feedback
Create documentation templates and develop operational standards for Project L’s outsourcing production
Help source external partners, vet them, and work with external developers with the contracts
Help align internal and external art teams to work as one cohesive organization
Advise teams on when to engage with external resources
Advise teams on what needs to be in place to begin work with external resources
Work with our partners to maintain the art vision
Enforce the pipeline for external asset development and communicate with internal stakeholders
Partner with production to establish a healthy cadence of deliverables for the art development
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of combined professional experience in the game industry in art leadership roles and external development
Excellent communication skills and the ability to navigate conversations with technical staff, artists, and business leaders
Fundamental game art skills with a focus on 3D character art
Desired Qualifications:
Proficiency with Maya, Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine
Experience overseeing strategy, budgets, negotiations, and vendor relationship management within constraints
Professional experience with asset production management
Experience sourcing external partners, vetting them, and creating contracts
