In collaboration with Lucasfilm, the Star Wars FPS Team is developing a new AAA FPS in the Star Wars galaxy. Inspired by classic titles like Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, our story-driven single player game is being developed from the ground up leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5. We’re combining this inspiration and technology with Respawn’s pedigree for making best-in-class shooters to deliver a brand new experience our players will love.

We are seeking a Lead Technical Artist to join our growing team. As the Lead Technical Artist, you will be responsible for growing a service oriented team that can provide new tools and techniques for our artists. As a complement to our Technical Animation team, your team will be responsible for supporting initiatives like world building, procedural tools, DCC tooling and automation, rendering and performance, editor based tools and Blueprints, and content optimization. We’re building an ambitious new Star Wars experience and Technical Art will make that happen quicker, easier, and in innovative new ways.

What you’ll do…

  • Work closely with Environments, VFX, Lighting, Rendering, and other content teams to build new tools and pipelines.

  • Be a pragmatic problem solver, able to dissect large and complex problems into manageable pieces.

  • Be a proactive leader, looking ahead to identify risks, production issues, dependencies, and scoping concerns.

  • Establish and maintain best practices, quality bar, pipelines, tools, processes, and documentation for the art department.

  • Be an advocate for training and education on the tools and pipelines your team develops.

  • Organize and pioneer research and development efforts aimed at improving pipelines or inventing new techniques.

  • Play a critical role in the recruiting efforts of the team, including screening, interviewing, final selection, and offer decisions.

  • Manage all aspects of the team including mentoring, training, tasking, and project management.

Ideally, you will have…

  • 7+ years of experience as a Technical Artist, with at least one shipped AAA game.

  • A passion for teaching and mentoring, whether to members of your team or the artists you will be supporting.

  • A deep understanding of game development pipelines, tools, and DCC applications.

  • Subject matter expertise in at least one of the following areas: Python or other scripting languages, materials/rendering, procedural tooling, Blueprint, Unreal Engine.

  • A strong service minded approach to helping other art departments.

  • A desire to work in a highly collaborative, iterative team environment. Giving and accepting constructive feedback is a core value of our team.

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.


  • California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento): $131,600 - $213,300

  • New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo): $131,600 - $213,300

  • Jersey City, NJ: $154,800 - $213,300

  • Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs): $131,600 - $179,600

  • Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane): $131,600 - $195,200

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby (following 1 year of service), medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
