What You'll Do
Epic is looking for a Senior Technical FX Artist to join our team working on Fortnite and Rocket League to create dramatic real-time particle VFX while providing technical solutions across the group. A successful candidate will be equipped to create real-time VFX content using Niagara, Materials, and Blueprints and support the FX team’s tooling and infrastructure as a self-motivated and autonomous team player. The key to this role is understanding Fortnites' artistic needs and goals and how to support them with real-time VFX.
In this role, you will
Execute outstanding effects for our games by bringing dramatic effects to life
Create all art needed for the visual effects; including FX concept, proto and final FX
Supply creative solutions given a set of technical constraints
Provide technical solutions that have a wider impact across the group
Support the core FX infrastructure of Fortnite and Rocket League
What we're looking for
An artist with technical capabilities that can make a broader impact across the group
A critical eye for timing and shape that can bring dramatic FX to life to support gameplay and the overall player experience
Understanding of artistic stylization, and how/when to apply those principles
Fluency in the pillars of Fortnite VFX - Niagara, Materials, and Blueprints (or similar frameworks)
A working understanding of graphics math and how to use it (and the ability/desire to learn more)
A working understanding of simulation systems (particles, grid methods)
Experience constructing modular components reused across a larger graphics framework
Ability to quickly understand existing systems in order to make improvements/upgrades/repairs on a live, shipped product
Experience with optimization for multiple platform targets, and experience in secondary disciplines such as modeling, skinning, animation, or lighting
Scripting/UI construction experience in Python, QT, Blueprints, etc and experience with procedural systems (e.g. Houdini)

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
California Base Pay Range
$155,111—$258,518 USD
