Localisation Engineer

Role overview We are looking for an experienced Localisation Engineer to join our award-winning International Production & Localisation team at PlayStation Studios. Our Localisation Team works with some of the most creative and quality-driven development teams in the industry to deliver best in class audio and text localisations for critically acclaimed franchises like Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, Horizon, The Last of Us, and Ghost of Tsushima.. We also work closely with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s publishing teams (Marketing, PR, Editorial, Operations) and local territories to deliver high quality localisation for digital content and printed materials globally. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing and documenting current & future needs through deep-dive discovery processes and review of current localisation workflows, tools, processes, and technical approaches across all content types.

Reporting into the Localisation Manager, International Production & Localisation, you will play a key role in implementing and managing tools and processes that drive quality and innovation, and increase operational efficiency.

What you'll be doing:

Language Technology & Data Management

  • Take responsibility for administration, maintenance and management of the language technology tools used within the department (CAT tools, TMS, etc.)

  • Define and document processes for TM/TB maintenance, review tooling used, and suggest and/or create other tools and automation scripts

  • Be the main point of contact for language technology providers

  • Take responsibility for identifying optimisation/automation opportunities.

  • Create technical briefs and work with engineering/IT teams for any dev or engineering work including API & feature creation.

  • Conduct full audit of current setup vs other CAT/TMS solutions. Make recommendations for an efficient, optimised and future-proof setup (for all content incl. Live Services)

  • Manage evaluation of MT providers and technologies, MT setup and management, and inventory and maintenance of MT data

  • Research language technologies to keep the team informed about the latest features and emerging technologies, best practices, and innovative use cases

Workflow Design & Optimisation

  • Assess game workflow requirements to craft, document and communicate ad-hoc solutions (creation of macros, customisations etc.)

  • Provide technical advice and solutions to automate and improve localisation workflows across all business units

  • Evaluate the current audio localisation workflow to identify areas suitable for process optimisation

  • Review bug fixing process to identify automation opportunities for bug report creation and attachments’ management

  • Make recommendations on technical solutions to handle gender variants in game effectively

What we're looking for:

  • You have 5+ years’ experience in a localisation engineer or language technology role, ideally in the games or digital publishing industry

  • You have excellent hands-on knowledge of CAT tools and content management systems

  • You are passionate about translation technologies with hands-on experience in ML/AI solutions

  • You have a solid understanding of localisation best practices, and a deep appreciation of cultural nuances and sensitivities

  • You are an exceptional collaborator and excel at written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • You are curious and creative, with a solutions-focused and data-driven mindset

  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and love new and interesting challenges

  • You are fluent in more than one language
