POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Gameplay Software Engineer on The Sims, your job will be to work on the new gameplay features, systems and UI for the Sims 4 in close collaboration with the Design team. You will build unique content for a game that supports a large demographic of simulation player patterns. Most of the work will be done in Python.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Extend existing and develop new data-driven gameplay and UI systems by writing performance-efficient Python and Action Script 3 code embedded into the context of existing architecture.

  • Create new Sim behaviors within a real-life simulation game in collaboration with the Design team: interaction with the world, other Sims, and objects; socialization, careers, scenarios etc.

  • Improve the data-driven framework that brings designs to life in collaboration with designers, producers, artists, and other engineers.

  • Extend the Testing and Analytics frameworks to maintain stability and provide business-critical data to Design and Product Management teams.

  • Write technical design documentation detailing software requirements, usage guidelines and implementation route.

Experience

REQUIRED

Please note that you do not need to qualify for all qualifications to be considered. We encourage you to apply if you can meet most of the requirements and are comfortable opening a dialog to be considered.

  • Proven ability to learn the legacy systems by reading and debugging the code.

  • 3+ years experience in a hands-on gameplay or UI development role.

  • Technical abilities with coding in C++ or Python.

  • Windows desktop development experience required.

  • Code optimization skills.

PLUSES:

  • Previous engineering experience overseeing a major gameplay system.

  • Experience with game animation and navigation systems.

  • Experience working in large data-driven games or applications.

  • Experience developing for large-scale live products.

  • Experience using static and performance analysis tools, automated testing, unit testing, and configuration management processes.

  • Knowledge of UI technologies such as Scaleform, ActionScript 3, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
