As an Engineering Manager at King your primary responsibility is to be a servant leader to the team you support ensuring that they are growing as engineers and delivering great features. You are a constant ambassador of innovation in the team. You will partner with Product Managers, Agile Coaches and Technical Directors to define strategy and execution ensuring a collaborative and inclusive approach encouraging diversity of thought.
You will be part of the engine team - Fiction Factory. We are a group of approximately 45 skilled, knowledgeable, and passionate people. We are cross-located in 3 beautiful cities (Malmö, Barcelona, and Stockholm). The technology we produce is used across more than 14 different King games including Candy Crush Saga and delivers gaming experiences to nearly a quarter of a billion mobile game players every month.
Some of the technologies part of Fiction Factory are:
A highly optimized game engine run-time capable of delivering high quality 2D and 3D mobile gaming experiences across a huge range of mobile devices.
A content editing tool and environment that enables rapid design and development of mobile games.
A content and build pipeline enabling efficient iteration of game teams and over-the-air delivery of content to mobile game players all around the world.
Your role within our Kingdom
Day to day, you’ll work closely with our game engine development teams to deliver a compelling product to our internal game teams. You will be building trust and a good work relationship with our Product Manager, Agile Coach, QA Specialists, Technical Directors and Engineers. Ensuring there is enough room for them to operate and take ownership of their own work.
As an Engineering Manager, you will coach and empower your team so they can excel in building great software, grow in their career and provide goals and feedback toward best performance. You have an agile and servant leadership approach and believe in autonomy and self-improvement. You will lead a varied and dedicated team through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, project management and hands-on career development.
You will work with the recruitment team to attract, onboard, and retain diverse top talent and identify needs within the different teams to support them delivering great technical solutions.
You identify and challenge any performance issues within the teams that could prevent them from reaching their best outcome. You work closely with the team and the rest of leadership to identify needs and suggest opportunities for improvement.
You create and maintain the production plan in partnership with the teams and leads. You then work with the teams to execute on it.
You track progress throughout production to learn and adjust in order to successfully deliver on expectations.
You provide production overview and status to stakeholders and leads.
Skills to create thrills
You thrive when developing great people and teams, not just great software and products. You have the ability to inspire, grow, lead and manage a team to high performance standards.
In past roles have contributed to the development, release and/or service operations of at least one digital product.
Have experience in leading teams into aligning and executing towards product vision and goals.
Have experience managing teams, software development projects, and have successfully solved many of the tough organizational challenges that follow. You will be comfortable managing teams of 8 to 14 people.
Able to work in and foster a team culture of trust and respect, in which open feedback, accountability, and courage to fail fast and learn are the norm.
You are an excellent communicator able is able to build strong relationships.
You are able to receive feedback openly and adjust leadership style and ways of working.
You make analytical and data- informed decisions.
Bonus points
You have experience in customer focused development.
Experience in game development crafts such as art, game design, engineering, QA/QC.
Experience working with distributed teams/development.
Experience working with Game Engines or tools.
Experienced with JIRA.
