ABOUT OUR COMPANY

Originally a volunteer passion project that aimed to provide a home to people looking to work in the esports industry and a place for hiring companies to find endemic talent, Hitmarker is now the largest job platform in esports and the video game industry.

Before COVID-19 struck, we were a team of nine full-time staff working from our office in Newcastle upon Tyne, which is in the far north of England. These days, we’re a team of 11 full-time staff working 100% remotely from two continents (Europe and South America).

Everyone at Hitmarker genuinely cares about helping people and making esports and the wider video game industry a better, more inclusive place. That’s why we’re all here living the startup life and working diligently day-in, day-out to provide the best service possible.

We’ve just smashed our second equity crowdfunding campaign funding target and are now looking to add more full-time staff to our team. We’re hoping to find more dedicated and upstanding humans who want to be part of something that’s truly one of a kind.

If you’d like to dive deeper into Hitmarker, you can find all of our social links on our company page.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Are you the Content Coordinator (China) we’re looking for to help us launch Hitmarker China later this year?

The successful candidate will help us create a Simplified Chinese version of our platform and then help to manage it on a day-to-day basis by promoting its listings across social media, attracting new clients, helping users, and more.

The ideal candidate would be a gamer and existing Hitmarker user who is fluent in both English and Mandarin, tech-savvy, a strong communicator, an effective organiser, and a team player.

This position is open to anyone based anywhere in the world and no formal qualifications are required to apply. Dedication, honesty, and reliability are all imperative, though.

The Content Coordinator (China) will work closely with our Content Lead, Creative Lead, Japan Lead, and LATAM Lead, and will receive support from all members of our team.

The role is offered (1) on a full-time employee basis to anyone legally able to live and work in the UK or (2) on an independent contractor basis to anyone not legally able to live and work in the UK.

The salary offered is £17,290 in year one. The role comes with 28 paid holiday days each year and equity is on offer following a year of service.

Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You’ll help us roll out, manage, and promote a brand new, Simplified Chinese version of Hitmarker by:

  • Localising our proprietary hiring platform to make it completely accessible to a Chinese audience.

  • Researching our competitors in the Chinese market and finding all of the other places where Chinese esports and video game industry jobs exist.

  • Moderating the platform to provide the best user experience by ensuring all jobs are categorised properly, formatted correctly, and haven’t already been posted.

  • Marketing the platform across the relevant social media channels to reach people looking for esports and video game jobs, as well as companies hiring for these jobs.

  • Developing relationships with candidates, hiring managers, and other staff at prominent video game companies to grow Hitmarker’s Chinese client list.

  • Providing best-in-class customer service to candidates and hiring companies alike.

This sounds like a lot, we know. But please don’t worry. Multiple people in our team have walked this path before and will guide you every step of the way.

WHO YOU ARE

We’re not prioritising professional experience or qualifications, but we are looking for a very specific type of human to fill this role. You should be:

  • A gamer. You don’t need to play a specific title on a particular device. You don’t need to be any good. You just need to love gaming and care about this industry.

  • A Hitmarker user. This is such a wide-ranging role that familiarity with our platform and existing social media accounts will be a big help in your early days with us.

  • Bilingual. It should go without saying that you need to be fluent in both English and Mandarin (Simplified Chinese) to apply to this position. Please don’t apply if you aren’t.

  • Tech-savvy. We’re a video game company, but we’re providing software as a service. You’re going to be using multiple external web applications in this role too.

  • A communicator. You can get your point across clearly, concisely, and politely, whether you’re writing or talking on the phone, on a video call, or face-to-face.

  • Organised. You keep track of stuff. That might mean you make lists, it might mean you use a specific productivity app, but you always come prepared.

  • A team player. You’re going to be relying heavily on your teammates, especially in your first few months. We’ll build a new team around you later on, if all goes to plan!

  • Dedicated. For 35 hours a week, you come to work to do work. We don’t expect you to live and breathe Hitmarker, we just want you to care when you’re here.

  • Honest. If you’ve got a problem, you’re not afraid to air it. If you can’t do something, you’re upfront about it. If you need help with something, you ask for it.

  • Reliable. If you say you’re going to do something, it gets done. If you’ve got a meeting scheduled, you show up on time and ready to go.

WHAT YOU’LL GET

Regardless of whether you join us as a full-time employee or a full-time freelancer, you'll receive benefits in addition to your salary:

  • The real living wage of £9.50 per hour. We work 35 hours per week, so this equates to an annual salary of £17,290.

  • 28 days of paid holiday per year, inclusive of bank holidays, plus your birthday off (or a bonus day off if your birthday falls on an existing holiday)!

  • Entry into our NEST employee pension scheme. (UK-based employees only.)

  • Entry into our staff equity scheme after one year of service.

  • Annual salary reviews with increases based on performance.

HOW TO APPLY

Apply on Hitmarker only with (1) a tailored cover letter that tells us (a) why you want to join our team, (b) why we should hire you, and (c) why a Chinese version of Hitmarker is a great idea and (2) the latest version of your CV/resume before 5 p.m. GMT on Friday 26th February 2021. We’ll then contact all candidates in the first week of March.

AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

If you feel like you'd excel in this position, please don’t talk yourself out of applying. We don’t care what your age, gender, nationality, skin colour, disability, sexual orientation, or religion is. Join us and help us build a better, more diverse Hitmarker and a better, more diverse video game industry.
