We are looking for a passionate and self-motivated narrative designer to join our Disney Dreamlight Valley design team. A brand cross-platform hybrid life-sim/adventure game already available! Rich with quests, exploration, and engaging activities featuring iconic Disney and Pixar friends, Disney Dreamlight Valley is a 100%-original Gameloft Montreal production, designed by a passionate team just waiting for you to join them!

The narrative designer's role is to create and champion the storytelling elements of the game. They serve as a key resource for all matters related to the narrative (history, structure, characters, context, dialogue, etc.). The narrative designer works in close collaboration with the project's level-design team at each stage of development to create strong gameplay that balances mechanics, design and structure, and the stories being told.

The successful candidate will work and write alongside the lead narrative designer, level designers, and a team of dedicated, talented, and friendly narrative designers.

Main Tasks:

  • Write dialogue between characters and the player that includes choices that facilitate self-expression
  • Bring the voices of popular and iconic Disney and Pixar characters to life
  • Develop engaging narrative content aligned with the philosophy and design pillars of the game
  • Contribute to the development of quests with consistent and compelling story arcs
  • Produce scripts for voiceover, barks, and quests at a regular cadence for a live-ops release schedule
  • Produce and update design documents for all narrative elements
  • Merge strong narrative layers with systemic features and balance them
  • Identify narrative problems and generate creative solutions with colleagues
  • Offer and accept comments respectfully in our brainstorms, gameplay reviews, and table reads
  • Collaborate with co-workers on a daily basis

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree (or passionately self-taught) in English, Creative Writing, Theatre, or Film and/or professional experience as a writer in the video game industry or another dramatic medium
  • A strong editorial eye and an ability to craft sharp, clear dialogue
  • Ability to design clear and coherent stories for diverse demographics with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of visual theory, storytelling, plot, structure, and character
  • Knowledge and passion for the history and theories governing interactive storytelling, including how story is used to support game mechanics and enhance player retention
  • Passionate about gaming, boasting an in-depth knowledge of games and the fundamentals of their design, game culture, and the entertainment industry as a whole
  • Mastery of the English language
  • Able to present clear narrative concepts and designs using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Miro or other related tools
  • Research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and an awareness of how to navigate limitations and work flexibly with available resources
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience writing for narrative branching games and/or cozy games is a bonus
  • Experience writing for games in live-ops is a bonus
