Discord is looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to join our Platform Ecosystem team to help lead the next era of Discord’s development platform. You will oversee the technical roadmap for Apps and Activities, working across APIs, SDKs, and Developer tools. You will work with teams across the organization including Engineering, Product, Data Science, Design, Infrastructure, and Customer Success to ensure that the technical strategy meets our goals.

What you'll be doing
Collaborate with leadership and senior engineers to improve upon the technical roadmap for Discord’s Developer Platform.
Work with Platform Ecosystem teams to develop SDKs, APIs and platform services.
Research and develop new parts of the platform. Scrutinize and reason on technology and architecture choices, identify tradeoffs and challenges, and get support from the team.
Collaborate with other staff engineers and partners across the organization to ensure technical understanding to other systems, products, and vision.
Participate at all levels of brainstorming, implementation and release.
Mentor the next generation of technical leaders at Discord.

You will report to the Director of Platform Ecosystem
What you should have
8+ years experience as a software engineer, with experience as a technical lead and/or engineering manager.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well across different teams.
You seek out opportunities to mentor, coach, and sponsor other engineers in their career growth.
A strong product sense, maintain a high degree of empathy for your internal and external users and seek feedback from them about your work.
A strong sense of development ergonomics, and take pride in understanding your engineer customers.
Comfort working with ambiguity and get excited about working collaboratively to better define complex problems, figure out solutions, and then execute on them.
The ability how to strike a balance between speed and quality of features to create durable technology. You thrive on building scalable systems that are robust, failure-resistant, and easy to maintain.
A practice of keeping up with industry trends and assessing new technologies that can help us better solve problems.
Experience building or maintaining developer-facing products, SDKs, libraries or services
Deep experience with designing APIs and API Platforms
Strong open-source leadership or contributions
Experience working across many programming languages or polyglot platforms
Experience making hard tradeoffs between important goals to get the right things built quickly
