Senior Postgres Platform Engineer
Evaluates new database technologies and tools in the industry. Sets database system administration and programming standards, applies database technology to business problems, manages development and production database environments with emphasis on security, availability, and performance. Determines appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage organization. Creates sustainable and maintainable tools to automate database provisioning, patching, monitoring, metrics, maintenance, and administration.
What you’ll achieve
As a Senior Postgres Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and operating production PostgreSQL clusters at scale, building the automation and platform capabilities that power Dell's Database Platform. You will work with a global database engineering team to deliver self-healing database infrastructure using Ansible, pgVector, Kubernetes and agentic coding patterns.

RESPONSIBILITIES
You will
- Design and operate PostgreSQL clusters at scale - replication, partitioning, connection pooling, VACUUM tuning, WAL management - for a fleet supporting billions of transactions monthly
- Deploy and manage PostgreSQL on Kubernetes using operators (CloudNativePG, Patroni) with automated failover, persistent storage optimization, and pod disruption budgets
- Build Ansible-based automation for provisioning, patching, upgrades and disaster recovery
- Optimize pgVector workloads - IVFFlat/HNSW index tuning, dimensionality planning, ANN search performance - for AI/ML embedding pipelines
- Mentor engineers on Postgres internals and operational best practices

Essential Requirements
- 10–14 years of database administration and platform engineering experience
- 6-10+ years of production PostgreSQL at scale - partitioning, logical replication, connection pooling (PgBouncer), pgBackRest, WAL tuning
- 3+ years of Kubernetes for stateful workloads - operators, persistent storage design, backup/restore in K8s, multi-cluster patterns
- 3+ years building automation frameworks in Python, Bash, Ansible - authoring infrastructure, not just using playbooks
- Proven track record of designing self-service infrastructure
Desirable Requirements
- pgVector production experience with high-dimension embedding workloads (RAG, semantic search)
- Agentic coding or LLM-augmented operations - self-healing scripts, natural-language-to-query interfaces, or autonomous remediation. Open source contribution and experience with Go langÂ
