Cold Symmetry is growing. We're currently hiring for multiple roles on Mortal Shell II.

Description

About the Role:

We’re looking for a UI Designer with a strong graphic design and visual art background to define the look and feel of Mortal Shell II’s interface. This is not a purely technical role - we’re specifically seeking someone with artistic taste, UI layout and composition skills, and the ability to create striking, game-appropriate visuals that aren’t generic sci-fi overlays.

You'll work closely with other teams at the studio to create production-ready UI assets that are both beautiful and practical for integration into Unreal Engine 5.

This is a game dev role. We appreciate all creative backgrounds, but for this position, we’re specifically looking for candidates with prior game development experience. If you haven’t worked on a game (shipped or in development), this probably isn’t the right fit.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design key UI elements including HUD, menus, inventory systems, prompts, and iconography

  • Define the visual language and aesthetic of the interface across all screens and platforms

  • Create UI mockups, style guides, and final art assets for use in-engine

  • Collaborate with UI engineers to ensure visual fidelity is preserved in UE5

  • Iterate on designs based on feedback and performance testing

  • Help establish a clean, immersive, and high-end visual identity for Mortal Shell II’s interface

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has strong graphic design fundamentals: composition, typography, hierarchy, spacing

  • Understands how to create UI that’s legible, elegant, and tone-appropriate (think brutalist, grounded fantasy)

  • Has experience designing UI for games or interactive media

  • Can deliver polished, game-ready assets (PNG, SVG, sprite sheets, icon sets, etc.)

  • Understands the practical constraints and resolution demands of Unreal Engine 5

  • Can adapt style to fit existing art direction and worldbuilding

  • Is comfortable working collaboratively with tech and design teams

Bonus Points For:

  • Familiarity with in-game UI implementation (UMG, Blueprints, etc.)

  • Motion design experience (transitions, hover states, etc.)

  • UI work on shipped games or dark/atmospheric projects

  • An eye for visual narrative and environmental storytelling
