Bungie is looking for a skilled and dedicated Character Art Outsource Specialist who will work closely with the Art Outsource Lead, Art Director, and various other disciplines who are part of the ExDev team to create breathtaking and compelling content for the game. As a Character Art Outsource Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the outsourcing process of character art assets, like armor and accessories, by supporting and advocating the game’s art direction and goals to external studios. In other words, you will help ensure the delivery of high-quality art from external vendors which conforms to our artistic vision and technical requirements.

Additionally, you will help oversee the integration process of the character models into the game engine, to add things like shader materials and glows, which all combine to create the final look of the character art. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Art Leads, Art Directors, Technical Artists and Concept Artists to understand and communicate the artistic vision, style, and technical specifications for characters in the game.

  • Partner with other disciplines (including Producers, 3D Modelers, Technical Artists, Concept Artists, and VFX Artists), to help define and communicate the scope of work for character art outsourcing tasks.

  • Oversee the outsourcing of character art assets through all stages of development, including block-out, high and low poly modeling, texturing, and integration.

  • Follow the ExDev teams’ review process to provide ongoing, timely, clear, and concise feedback to our ExDev partners who are working on art assets, to ensure their work achieves the project's artistic and technical goals while keeping to a schedule.

  • Update the task status for each asset as they progress through the art pipeline, to ensure accurate tracking and alignment with project schedules.

  • Help document and facilitate the 3D Character workflow between ExDev and in-house.

  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, tools, and techniques related to character art in video games. Provide guidance and support to vendors in implementing optimal workflows, file formats, and technical requirements for character art production.

  • Create and/or modify existing assets, as necessary.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, character design, organic and hard surface modeling techniques, and PBR texturing and shading methods.

  • Expert knowledge of Maya, Substance Painter, Zbrush Marmoset Toolbag, and Photoshop.

  • Portfolio showcasing exceptional character design and art skills and a proficiency with high to low poly modeling pipelines.

  • Keen eye for detail and quality, and the ability to identify and address potential issues or improvements within character art assets.

  • Ability to provide clear artistic direction, feedback, and constructive criticism to maintain visual consistency and quality standards.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to articulate clearly to others verbally, through writing, and with images, to provide guidance and feedback while being professional and diplomatic.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team environment, fostering positive relationships and promoting a culture of creativity, excellence, and continuous improvement.

  • Outstanding ability to problem-solve and drive creative solutions.

  • Task driven, self-motivated, and proactive.

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • An understanding and passion for graphic design and fashion design as they relate to character art in video games.

  • The ability to align with multiple different art styles is highly desirable.

  • A passion and knowledge for video games, and the gaming industry and/ or experience in character art production, outsourcing, or related roles within the video game industry.

Listed below is this role's base pay range. In other locations that Bungie has approved for remote work, this pay range may be adjusted up to +/- 10% and some roles may be classified as non-exempt (hourly). This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Bellevue Pay Range

$78,000—$101,000 USD

Bungie full-time (non-contract) employees in the U.S. also receive:

  • 20 days of accrued time-off in the form of PTO and sabbatical days, depending on the level of the position

  • 10 paid Floating Days annually, prorated in the first year of employment based on start date

  • 10 paid Bungie-observed holidays annually

  • One hour of Paid Sick Time (PST) for every 30 hours worked

Contract and International FTE employees receive competitive benefits through their relevant contracting agency.
