The story of Arma 4 doesn't write itself β€” it's built on systems, structures, and people who know exactly how to pull players into the world. Bohemia Interactive is looking for a Senior Narrative Designer to join the narrative team and help build a game world that will entertain, surprise, and make players think.

You'll be part of a six-person narrative team, reporting directly to the Narrative Director. Your domain will cover the design of narrative systems, quests and missions, branching dialogue, and writing English-language content β€” from dialogue and cinematic scripts to flavor texts, briefings, and environmental storytelling. Your first drafts will then be refined and elevated by the team's native English Lead Writer, ensuring the final quality meets the highest standards of the project.

This is not a role for someone who waits to be told what to do. We're looking for someone who actively designs narrative features, owns them, and sees them through from concept to implementation β€” on one of the most legendary military simulations in gaming history.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of narrative systems, quest and mission structures, and player-facing narrative features (e.g., briefings, intel systems, environmental storytelling).
  • Building and maintaining branching dialogue and narrative flowcharts.
  • Writing original English-language dialogue, cinematic scripts, and flavor texts.
  • Creating first drafts of English-language texts and original content in collaboration with the native English Lead Writer, who will refine and elevate the final copy to the highest level.
  • Owning assigned narrative features β€” from concept through to final implementation.
  • Close collaboration with game designers, voice directors, the cinematic team, and localization to deliver a cohesive narrative experience.
  • Contributing to the overall game narrative structure, pacing, and player experience through critical design thinking.
  • Working with proprietary tools and editors built on Bohemia Interactive's in-house engine; quickly learning and adapting to new tools.
  • Building upon an already-established project vision β€” respecting existing creative decisions while bringing your own expertise and ideas to the table.

Requirements:

  • Excellent writing skills in English β€” ability to produce compelling first drafts and original game narrative content.
  • Strong experience in narrative design for games, backed by shipped titles or demonstrable credits.
  • High-level critical thinking regarding narrative structure, game design, and player experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to join an in-progress project and work within established creative frameworks, respecting others' ideas and decisions.
  • Willingness to champion narrative features and drive them forward.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable collaborating across disciplines and cultures in a distributed team.
  • Ability to quickly learn and work with different tools, editors, and proprietary engines.


Nice to Have:

  • Czech language writing skills.
  • Experience with Bohemia Interactive products, knowledge of the Arma franchise and/or BI modding tools (Enfusion, Real Virtuality).
  • Ability to create game features or full games in a game engine β€” modding experience, game jam entries, indie projects, or prototyping in engines such as Unreal, Unity, or Enfusion.
  • Understanding of coding/scripting and its intersection with narrative system design.
  • Experience designing branching narratives and open-world narrative architecture.
  • Experience working in node-based dialogue editors.
  • Experience working in visual collaborative environments (e.g., Miro, Mural, FigJam, or similar).
