As a World Designer, you will take ownership of specific portions of our world and bring them to completion. Armed with the vision of the Lead World Designer, you will put your own personal stamp on your domain and create truly engaging and fantastical environments that will keep players coming back to explore. Your thorough understanding of world-building, artistic composition, and boundless creativity is integral to supporting the player's experience and telling the visual stories of our unique world.

This role is anticipated to be an on-site position. The home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible options.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Be able to provide meaningful feedback to other designers based on your knowledge of design.

  • Be a strong contributor in creating amazing spaces to play in and explore.

  • Build interior and exterior PvP / PvE points of interest from inception all the way through to production under the guidance of the Lead World Designer and the creative pillars of the game.

  • Work together with other designers to build gameplay heavy moments such as combat encounters, narrative events, and logic puzzles.

  • Author, review and maintain design documentation.

  • Playtest and iterate on level content to ensure the highest quality.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with all stakeholders to ensure a best-in-industry production process, player experience and team environment.

  • Work closely with the design team to ensure traversal metrics, budgets, world streaming and visual targets are met.

  • Be able to surface issues with tools / pipelines to the Lead World Designer that impact the team and our overall ability to deliver on a schedule.

  • Partnering with art and content design to define and create both beautiful and playable locations that effectively complement Blizzard's world-class handcrafted level design.

Requirements/Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in game development, or equivalent in a combination of education and work experience.

  • Be able to craft spaces that would thrive in an open world setting.

  • Demonstrated mastery of level design processes including, but not limited to, level flow, engagement design, pacing, storytelling, PVP, etc.

  • Working knowledge of any 3D modelling package such as Maya.

  • Proficient in using game editing software such as Unreal, Unity, Frostbite, etc.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

  • Experience in shipping multiple titles or a AAA title

  • Enjoy playing a variety of video game genres and titles

  • A love for survival-based games and shooters in general a plus

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $29.81 - $55.14 Hourly. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
