The Blizzard Global Communications editorial team has an immediate opening for an experienced, brand-oriented editor who is passionate about helping to shape our messaging around Blizzard-level initiatives. This will involve owning responsibility for Blizzard brand-level content strategy, which will include cross-franchise and shared-service content, such as cultural/DE&I efforts, and working with teams such as our Talent Attraction and Blizzard brand marketing teams. This is in addition to developing and refining messaging to support these efforts, as well as stepping in to assist with game/franchise communications when required.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a skilled communicator—someone who is articulate, well-versed in the rules of grammar, and experienced in developing their own written work and the work of others. Familiarity with a wide range of communications vehicles—blogs, speeches, press releases, FAQs, key messages, crisis statements, PowerPoints, and more—is crucial, as is experience creating and enlivening copy for a range of channels and audiences—websites, social media, video, employees, the press, and the public.
The editor in this role will be partnering with internal and external colleagues at different levels of the company, including agencies, customer service teams, web and game developers, employee resource groups (ERGs), digital marketing, and senior executives, so a strong sense of organization, professionalism, self-motivation, attention to detail, and time management is critical. Additionally, we’re looking for someone who is well-informed on Blizzard’s games and history, the game industry, and communication trends, and who can write with the creativity appropriate for a global entertainment company.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.
What You Bring to the Table:
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Own responsibility for and align different partners on Blizzard brand-level content strategy
Be responsible for or develop communications initiatives focused on Blizzard culture, whether it be within game teams, ERGs, learning and development, shared services, or Blizzard as a whole
Be responsible for or develop news content for Blizzard.com
Coordinate with digital marketing and talent acquisition teams on communications and activations, as well as bring expertise to our voice, tone, and copywriting
Write, edit, proof, fact-check, and polish a variety of business-oriented communications as needed—all with a steadfast focus on quality
Collaborate with Blizzard brand marketing, talent acquisition, community, PR, web, legal, executive, and development teams across a range of projects
Manage content-approval process
Support crisis-communication strategies on global business- and franchise-related topics
Coordinate public communication efforts with domestic and international teams
Work with representatives from other departments to help establish and improve content-development processes and public-communication standards
Interview subject matter experts to gather data for written assignments
Maintain a communications style guide and other shareable communications guidelines, as well as a digital messaging archive
Supervise content effectiveness and help modify content strategies accordingly
Help define, document, and uphold Blizzard’s communications standards
Implement consistent document-control procedures and help manage the document file system
Additional projects and duties as assigned
B.A. in English or journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
5-8+ years editorial, PR, journalism, or marketing communications experience
Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills
Ability to work quickly, under deadline pressures, at a high-quality level
Strong knowledge of English grammar and usage, and solid proofreading skills
Experience using style and grammar references, including Chicago Manual of Style
Proficiency with MS Office, particularly PowerPoint and Word
Ability to focus and multitask in a fast-paced environment and with minimal supervision
Ability to exercise good independent judgment and discretion
Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
Gaming fan, particularly Blizzard games
Technical and/or narrative-development experience

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $72,720.00 - $134,460.00 Annual. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
