THE ROLE:Â
AMD is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our People Analytics team and help advance a modern HR data platform built on Microsoft Fabric. The platform transforms SuccessFactors and related HR source data into governed workforce data that powers Power BI reporting and a natural-language analytics assistant used by HR business partners. As the platform’s second engineer and co-owner, you will work closely with the platform architect to extend the transformation layer, strengthen data quality and testing, and help evolve a rapidly built proof of concept into a hardened, well-documented, enterprise-grade system. You will take ownership of meaningful areas of the platform early in your tenure while expanding your expertise across HR data, cloud engineering, analytics, and AI-assisted development.Â
THE PERSON:Â
You are an ownership-oriented data engineer who brings discipline to testing, performance, documentation, and production operations. You are comfortable absorbing complex, domain-specific business logic and translating it into clear, maintainable data models and documentation. You share what you learn, collaborate effectively with technical and HR partners, and bring structure to a fast-moving, AI-assisted development environment. You are motivated by the opportunity to build for the long term, improve engineering standards, and ensure that trusted workforce insights do not depend on any single person.Â
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Â
- Own and extend the dbt Fabric transformation layer and medallion architecture models that support the daily employee spine, dimensions, natural keys, grains, join patterns, and row-level security model.Â
- Write clean, portable, high-performing, and well-tested SQL using practices such as window functions, incremental loading, and slowly changing dimensions, while avoiding platform-specific business logic where practical.Â
- Build and maintain automated data quality checks, validation controls, and an evaluation framework for both the data pipeline and analytics assistant so accuracy is measured and issues are identified before they affect stakeholders.Â
- Maintain and improve Bronze-layer ingestion from HRIS source systems through Azure storage and the data warehouse using Python and PySpark notebooks.Â
- Contribute to the Power BI semantic layer, including TMDL-defined models, DAX measures, and row-level security.Â
- Document data rules, models, lineage, operating procedures, and platform knowledge to support shared ownership, maintainability, and effective knowledge transfer.Â
- Work within Git and Azure DevOps development workflows that support CI/CD and SOX-style controls, including pull request-based promotion and separation of author, approver, and deployer responsibilities.Â
- Partner with the platform architect and HR stakeholders to independently operate and extend core data models and support reliable day-to-day pipeline performance.Â
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Â
- Strong SQL skills, including experience with window functions, incremental loading patterns, slowly changing dimensions, and query performance tuning.Â
- Production experience with dbt, including models, tests, macros, and seeds, along with a demonstrated commitment to data quality and testing.Â
- Proficiency in Python and experience using PySpark with large datasets.Â
- Hands-on experience with a cloud lakehouse or data platform; Microsoft Fabric experience is preferred, while Databricks, Synapse, or Snowflake experience is also valued.Â
- Experience with Git-based development, CI/CD practices, and controlled deployment workflows; Azure DevOps experience is preferred.Â
- Experience with Power BI semantic modeling, including TMDL, DAX, and row-level security.Â
- Knowledge of HR, SuccessFactors, people analytics, or workforce data is highly desired.Â
- Experience with AI-assisted development or LLM-based data tools, such as MCP or natural language-to-SQL solutions, is preferred.Â
- Experience with ServiceNow data, Snowflake, or related data integrations is desired.Â
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:Â
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Analytics, or a related field is preferred.Â
- Relevant certifications in Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Power BI, dbt, Snowflake, or cloud data engineering are desired.Â
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
