Your Mission

The Sr. Director, Employee Relations will guide the evolution of Activision Blizzard’s global employee relations (ER) and investigations model. This newly formed "center of expertise" team will serve as a steward of our philosophy, policies, and practices in handling employee sensitive matters and complex workplace issues. You will work in close partnership with the HR and Legal teams to build a modern operating model and drive consistent ER processes across the organization while minimizing risk and ensuring a positive ethical workplace.

You will serve as a key driver in facilitating the transformation of our ER work through your broad involvement in policy development, your handling of critical employee relations issues that are crisis-oriented and time sensitive, and acting as a challenger of current practices, which mandates that you think outside the box to generate effective ways to scale ER and HR programs and develop best in class solutions.

You have direct accountability to the consistency and effectiveness of our policies, the creation and execution of programs that reduce business risk, and the implementation of best practices for manager/employee relationships.

Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership vision, management, and development to the newly created Employee Relations team and extended community of partners
  • Create strategies, plans, and processes that reflect the culture of Activision Blizzard in key moments that matter for employees
  • Develop and implement various policies and programs that manage risk, including policy interpretation and sensitive work-related issues
  • Partner with Activision Blizzard’s Legal department to effectively support investigative processes for employee complaints and resolve conflicts, compliance, and sensitive work-related issues
  • Leverage insights to influence all levels of the business and effectively handle complex employee situations that could have high organizational impact
  • Partner and coach HR Business Partners on interventions required for individuals, managers, and/or teams on preventing employee relations risks, effective management of performance cases, giving performance feedback, and increasing employee engagement
  • Research and share labor relations best practices

Scale, Scope and Reporting Relationships

  • Serves as a people leader with responsibility for the Employee Relations function across Activision Blizzard as well as provides HR support to the global Human Resources function
  • Reports to the VP HR Operations and leads project-based teams including investigation and policy specialists; partners actively with Senior People Officers and the Legal department

Year One Success

  • Fully stand up the newly formed Employee Relations function, including hiring/onboarding all new team members
  • Complete a comprehensive review of Activision Blizzard’s policies and investigation processes, including external benchmarking; provide standardization and improvement recommendations to Chief People Officer
  • Evaluate issues, patterns, and trends and determine modern solutions to continuously improve the Employee Relations team’s effectiveness and operating productivity
  • Develop and evolve the capabilities of the team in conducting investigations, providing recommendations, and refreshing policies

The successful candidate must possess unquestionable character and absolute integrity. S/he will be a proven leader with a blend of superior technical, operational, and leadership skills continuously applied to improve the operations of the company. Additionally, s/he should possess exceptional attention to detail, strong initiative, and critical thinking skills while serving as a hands-on leader and collaborator.

  • Minimum of 10 combined years of directly applicable HR and Employee Relations experience, including prior HR Generalist experience
  • Strong working knowledge of global employment laws and regulations and the ability to appropriately spot employment risks and issues
  • Exceptional leader of people and teams that is an attractor and motivator of top talent
  • Ability to partner with the global HR and Legal teams to effectively manage all types of employee relations cases
  • Excellent coaching, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills, including stellar communication, collaboration, case handling, and project management
  • Ability to recognize trends and identify systemic approaches to solving problems
  • Business and people acumen, knowledge of HR frameworks and models, and ability to influence employees, managers, and leaders at all levels
  • Data- and metrics-driven analytical approach to people-related decisions
  • Highest level of integrity with a proven ability to gain trust from all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion

Education
Undergraduate degree required.
