What We Need
2K is headquartered in Novato, California but most of our team is fully remote! The Mid/Core mobile division at 2K is a team focused on RPGs and 4X games for mobile. As a growing division we are developing the foundation to build out 2K’s mobile business with exciting opportunities to work with award winning IPs like XCOM, Civilization, Bioshock, Borderlands, and more! We are looking for experienced designers in Live Service Games and RPGs. We use a good mix of game knowledge, data, and community feedback to help inform our design decisions and make the player experience the best it can be.

What You Will Do
2K Mobile is seeking an autonomous and analytical Systems Designer who is excited to help publish F2P mobile games, particularly in the RPG and Strategy genres.
Do you love designing systems that engage players day after day? Do spreadsheets, data, and KPIs excite you? Do you try to understand your players and their motivations? As part of a small team that believes in self sufficiency you will be agile and well rounded in matters related to game design. You could be evaluating and balancing resource economies one day, and be looking into combat systems and content difficulty the next.
As a Systems Designer, you will work closely with our Lead Game Designer to design around optimizing retention and monetization across multiple systems. A successful designer in this role will need strong communication skills and clear, organized documentation to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and execute on design initiatives. Understanding of the project’s problems, the players and their motivations, and project goals are keys to success.
Design, analyze, and tune game systems related to progression and engagement
Create design documents to communicate initiatives to internal and external stakeholders
Iterate on designs and balancing based on data analysis and KPIs
Assist on a wide range of other game design work, sometimes as a collaborator and sometimes as a core designer
Analyze data and review KPIs to create and strategize design initiatives and tuning
What Will Make You a Great Fit
7+ years experience in F2P and Live-Service Games
Understanding of how to design with KPIs and Live-Ops in mind
Understanding of mid to hardcore F2P Live Service games (RPGs/4X)
Experience or expertise in 3 or more of the following design disciplines: Combat/Character Design, Progression/Monetization, Tuning/Balancing, Data Analysis/KPIs, Content/Narrative, UI/UX
Excellent communication skills
Ability to drive initiatives to completion and quality
Understanding of player psychology
Ability to work on multiple projects at once
Flexible working hours to communicate with developers around the world
Location: Remote (mainly supporting West Coast/PST hours)
The pay range for this position in California at the start of employment is expected to be between $130,000 and $175,000 per Year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an 'at-will position' and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
