Job Description

Reporting into the Marketing Director for Japan, the candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing integrated Esports campaigns across Ubisoft’s esports portfolio. Working as part of a multi-functional team, the Esports Marketing Manager will work collaboratively with the local Marketing team, UK Events team and the international Esports and Customer Relationship Centre teams.

The role involves working primarily on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six but also across a variety of products, from leading established brands and partnerships to highly anticipated new IP, and offers an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s most renowned and innovative videogames companies.

The successful candidate will have a proven experience in Esports management planning and execution within the entertainment, gaming or technology industries. We are looking for a passionate team player to join our collaborative and close-knit team, who can bring a proactive and results-driven approach and a willingness to constantly challenge themselves, plus a keen interest in videogames and entertainment.

Strategic Planning & Market understanding

  • Responsible for planning and development of all local Esports. Understands and considers the role of paid, owned and social media, and works with the Brand, Social Media, and Communications Manager, to set the esports strategies if relevant for product launches.
  • Builds and delivers first class Esports plans in-line with EMEA vision for allocated products/brands, working with local or international agencies to implement campaigns that show innovation and creativity in approach, and deliver excellence in execution.
  • Illustrates a keen understanding of both the target audience, and the media landscape, and drives innovation and engagement within the local Esports approach.
  • Identifies, negotiates, evaluates and recommends opportunities for larger strategic activations and partnerships that reach across multiple channels, to secure standout presence and reach as well as impactful engagement, for integration into the plan.

Esports

  • Financial responsibility for local esports competitions & broadcasts.
  • Liaison with esports partner for local national online & offline competition & broadcast organization.
  • Works with agreed agency for local esports partnerships (local broadcast integration, content partnerships or event activations). Challenge the agencies on a regular basis.
  • Shares competition overview with brand/media & comms teams for esports activation plans.
  • Plan, oversee & execute show builds & streams.
  • Coordinates stream visuals & brand marketing assets for stream inclusion inc. VOD curation with EMEA branding team.
  • Live stream management & moderation.
  • Localization of social media posting during streams & events from agreed calendar.
  • Mediate and problem solve issues during live streams, competitions and events with partner and all the different stakeholders.
  • Talent manage (Casters, hosts, players, influencers) at events.
  • Developing business by finding new partners & negotiating the best deals with potential sponsors.
  • Reporting: Forecast KPIs & monthly reporting of esports marketing, esports streams & VODs to local & EMEA stakeholders.
  • Support merchandise team with product creation in alignment with brands

Community Engagement

  • Develops new relationships with key local-based community leaders and is able to recruit them as stakeholders in our marketing activities and communications, improving Ubisoft’s overall visibility and favorability.
  • Works with the other members of the local Marketing team to define the local approach to esports community engagement and owned live-streaming strategy.
  • Represent local esports at consumer shows, exhibitions, and other events, organizing meet and greets with fans.
  • Reporting: Using all available measurement tools, provide monthly reporting on agreed KPIs and continually find ways to improve on those metrics through testing and new initiatives.
  • Work with the Marketing Director to agree on budget considerations.

Communication and operational effectiveness

  • Collaborates with the local Brand, Social Media and Communications Managers to deliver integrated and effective marketing campaigns that entertain and excite the consumer target audience and drive engagement with Ubisoft and its brands.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively and works closely with internal and external stakeholders, to facilitate understanding and alignment. Has a deep understanding of product attributes and benefits and acts as an advocate for his/her product portfolio, both with internal teams, and externally, with communities and players.
  • Develops close working relationships with the central EMEA Esports and Customer Relationship Centre teams, to ensure clear communication and alignment.
  • Demonstrates efficiency across marketing plans and illustrates ROI for all campaign elements, through clearly identified measurement criteria, prudent budgetary management, and thorough analysis. Contributes ideas for improving tools and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience working in Esports management/marketing or live event production
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills & communication skills: assertive, diplomatic, able to lobby
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an eye for detail
  • Excellent Japanese and English required to work in a global context and to create B to C copywriting in Japanese
  • Excellent negotiator
  • A proactive and motivated approach, with great organizational skills
  • Experience in managing and maintaining professional relationships with external and internal partners from briefing and negotiation, to constructive feedback
  • Understanding of media fundamentals
  • Available to work nights and weekends as needed based on esports live event coverage needs
  • A keen interest in the videogames and entertainment market
  • Ambitious and passionate about career
  • Knowledge of influencer marketing/content creation
