Position Summary: Technical Level Designer

  • As a Level Designer, you will help create layouts and gameplay situations according to creative and technical guidelines of the project
  • Full-time, 100% remote

  • Reports to: Level Design Lead

Responsibilities

  • Follow project guidelines and use our various ingredients as well as our constraints in order to create spaces and situations that enhance the overall experience and fit the project's thematics.
  • As the often end-user of a lot of game’s features, you will take ownership of your own map and act as a vector of proposal and communication with the other departments to achieve coordination and facilitate team working and a good feedback loop.
  • Understand the project’s vision as transmitted by team lead, and be able to translate it into your maps and use your creativity to make that vision shine through your contribution..
  • Collaborate closely with game design and level art team to push your levels forward with the available tools, and share your progress and knowledge among team members.
  • Document your level in order to convey your intentions to the whole team, and act as a point of reference.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a Level Design position
  • Understanding of design fundamentals, especially those pertaining to space, flow, 3Cs and metrics
  • A capacity for autonomy and proactivity. If something is unclear, lacking, misunderstood, you should be able to quickly bring it up and move forward.
  • Organization skills and ability to document and report on progress, ideas, tasks.
  • Fast prototyping skills focused on conveying clear intentions and creative, focused setups.
  • Good with giving and receiving feedback from the level design team and other departments.
  • Quick to make required modifications and act on said feedback, with the help and guidance of lead.
  • Good communication skills in English

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Unreal Engine a plus
  • Experience in VR nice to have
  • Modeling experience a plus (Blender, Sketchup, etc)
  • A good understanding of modularity in games
  • Great interpersonal skills
