Reporting to the VP of Marketing & Content, this position will be responsible for consistently securing positive top-tier earned media coverage to support the continued growth and business development of theScore, theScore Bet, and theScore esports. They will lead the development and execution of a robust US-focused media relations strategy, have a proven track record of driving coverage, and possess a strong list of existing media contacts of strategic value. The Director, Communications & Media Relations will possess a strong understanding of what makes a powerful narrative, be highly motivated in developing and nurturing key contacts within the media industry and have an insatiable hunger to tell theScore’s story.

Typical Work Day at theScore:

  • Develop and tactically execute a robust media relations plan that reinforces theScore’s position as a leader in digital sports media and gaming.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to leverage theScore’s initiatives, business results, and thought leadership to regularly secure positive top-tier US-focused earned media coverage, amplifying our brand, product offering, and leadership team.
  • Lead US-focused media relations plans tied to major company announcements, partnerships, content initiatives, and general business development activities.
  • Proactively identify story opportunities to pitch strategically to media outlets that tie-back to our core narrative and build on theScore’s position as a leader in digital sports media and gaming.
  • Identify, forge, and develop 1-1 relationships with media of key strategic importance, creating a two-way dialogue to facilitate outbound and inbound earned media opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary company contact for inbound media inquiries from US-based outlets.
  • Support media logistics around high-profile speaking opportunities and events attended by theScore’s leadership team.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in the communications industry, with a passion and specialty for media relations.
  • An existing contacts book of tier-one reporters and media outlets of strategic value.
  • A proven track record of being able to consistently secure positive media coverage for a client or organization within a highly-competitive and noisy industry.
  • A results-focused approach and an unrelenting drive to secure and measure media coverage that positively moves the needle.
  • A self-starter with the ability to think strategically, as well as execute at a tactical level.
  • Strong interest and knowledge of the sports media/sports betting/esports space extremely beneficial.
  • Experience with media monitoring software (e.g. Meltwater) beneficial.
  • Degree in communications or marketing, or equivalent experience, preferred.
