Online Services Programmer
Lab42 is a best in class cross-platform game developer based in the UK. Now in our fifth-year, our headcount has grown to 30 experienced people supported by a veteran management team with backgrounds from Activision, Codemasters, EA, and Sumo Digital.
With an exceptional engineering team who bring experience of working directly on 17 titles across a range of platforms, we are ideally set up to take on the responsibility of full SKU development, adaptations & ports from platform to platform and focused co-development where our adaptable production techniques and processes enable us to dovetail with our partners.
We hold the official license for World Snooker and internally developed the photo-realistic, sports/simulation Snooker19, the first in an ongoing game franchise, for all major Consoles and PC. That’s in addition to providing a range of development services and special projects to a growing client list which features Paradox, Sega, Klei Entertainment, Magmic, Ripstone and WayForward.
Lab42 Games are looking to recruit an Online Services Programmer to support the development and integration of online services into our game projects utilising platforms and tools like Gamesparks, Braincloud, Steam, Console SDK’s, Photon, etc.
What is the Job?
- You will be working on a variety of different game projects, both internally developed, and third party projects that we are responsible for or assisting other developers with.
- Many of the games you will work on have a requirement for some type of online functionality, this could mean anything from full on real-time multiplayer through to leaderboards, online data storage or even something as simple as getting the correct time of day.
- You will report directly to our tech director, but on a day to day basis you would be working with our game teams. Typically, a producer will manage scheduling of your tasks on the project, you would then work with the other coders on that team to help them integrate whatever online functionality is required in their game.
- You will assist and advise on any online tech decisions we need to make, and will be encouraged to explore and experiment with the many different third party services that are available.
Who are we looking for?
You will need to be self-motivated and capable of working without direct supervision. You will need to have an explorative nature, interested in playing around with the latest software and applying it to a very wide range of different systems. You need to be able to figure things out on your own as you will be the most knowledgeable person in the studio when it comes to online services.
Ideally, you have some experience of integrating online services into game projects. However, we would be more than happy to consider anyone from a web services or other non-gaming software development industry with relevant experience.
