The role @ Sumo

We are looking for a Lead Level Designer to join us on an exciting new project. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in developing an idea from the ground up and to build a team that can deliver it at the required standard.

As Lead Level Designer you are responsible for the output and development of the level design team. You will create, maintain and evangelise best practices from a level design perspective. In this role, you will be expected to champion quality across the project and collaborate with all teams in the delivery of an exciting new project.

Within this role you will:

  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to create exciting, innovative and engaging levels.
  • Help develop and evolve the tools, processes, and pipelines that the level design team will use.
  • Champion the game’s vision through all stages of development.
  • Collaborate with production to plan and deliver the level design workload for the project
  • Use player-feedback and design direction to hone the gameplay experience.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced members of the level design team.
  • Embody the passion of the design department.

To be successful you will have:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good motivational skills and the ability to inspire greatness from your team.
  • Extensive knowledge of level design theory and a proven track record of designing levels for platform or family games.
  • A relentless passion for all aspects of gaming.
  • 5+ years in game development
  • Knowledge of UE4
