To this end, we are seeking an experienced Lead Level Artist who can join our team and help pave the way towards our new goals.

About the position

Sparx* is looking for a Lead Level Artist to be part of our creative team and work on ambitious AAA. This is a full-time position based in our office In Ho-Chi-Minh Ville (Vietnam), which involve working with international clients.

As a Lead Level Artist, you will create captivating 3D environments for AAA games. You will be an environment architect, a visual storyteller, and an experience maker wrapped into one.

Even within a given framework, you can push creative boundaries – and you have the artistic ability to do so. You know how to modify lighting, create basic place-holders, play around with composition and add just the right amount of detail to develop a game space with plenty of personality.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical understanding of environment asset and level creation, can communicate with other disciplines within the development team and is able to take creative direction from the Art Director. In the end, he/she could become a reference point and a mentor for other level artists.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Lead Level Artist who has:

  • Proven experience in leading a team of artists
  • Master the creation, editing and performance optimization of level
  • Plan and coordinate the creation of environment modules and materials
  • Supervise the creation of structure, terrain, props and their integration in the level until final polish
  • Collaborate with the Art Director and Level Designer to understand game intentions and vision
  • Perform research and create brief in collaboration with a concept artist.
  • Integrate built assets into the game engine to set and dress a polished scene.
  • Ensure that the artistic direction and level gameplay is respected.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience as a Level Artist on AAA quality, plus at least one significant experience as a Manager or Team lead LA.
  • Experience in adjacent fields such as modelling, texturing, lighting or material creation
  • Great communication skills and the ability to positively motivate a team
  • Excellent knowledge of video game development process and interactions between the artistic, design and technical jobs;
  • Mastering of art fundamentals: lighting, staging, layout, etc.
  • Mastering and production experience of Unreal, Unity or any game engine
  • Ability to find solutions from a visual, production and technical perspective
  • Passion for pushing quality further and refining production techniques
  • High degree of self-motivation and initiative
  • At ease working in English with an international team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
