Rigging Leads are responsible for designing, creating and maintaining highly accurate and efficient rigs for high-end feature animation films, according to the technical guidelines of the rigging supervisor.

Requirements

  • Working closely with Animators to provide and refine an articulation of the full range of expressions and body movement needed to support a character's acting range in the film
  • Collaborate directly with Character Asset Team members: Directors, Character Designers, Animators, Modelers, and Look Development Artists to define and create the best deformation or animation rigs for a wide range of character styles and art directions
  • Creative use of deformers to achieve a specific deformation called for by Animation with a concise set of animation controls
  • Keep up on current artistic methodologies and on technology trends and tools that best suit the production and the company, in the development of a stronger creative and technical environment
  • Develop and maintain procedural rig components with a specific focus on deformation, using a custom Python Rigging API
  • Writing scripts in Python to facilitate workflow improvements. Brainstorming new techniques and ideas for user interfaces, deformation tools, and character specific rigging solutions
  • Leads the team providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that contribute towards their artistic and professional growth, making sure all the assets follow the quality standards and artistic direction and that achieves the deadlines
  • Follows Supervisor’s guidance
  • Provide regular feedback to your artists and ensure quality control for the artists on the team
  • Train, share knowledge and assume responsibility for the progression of more junior members of the team

Responsibilities

  • 6 years or more of professional experience
  • At least 2 year of experience as Lead in the animation industry, with preference in feature animation films
  • Deformation proficiency demonstrated through past project work
  • Experience with both mechanical and/or organic type rigs with preference in feature animation
  • Strong and production proven knowledge of rigging and deformation using Maya
  • Solid knowledge in pipeline, process, tools and techniques with a high-level understanding of industry standards, conventions, formats and common practice
  • Proven solid technical and visual skills, excellent attention to detail
  • An impressive reel demonstrating attention to facial surface detail, underlying facial anatomy, and credible and organic facial expressions
  • Strong knowledge of in order to streamline the character set up process
  • Deep understanding in anatomy and muscle dynamics. Good eye for aesthetics of body/face deformations
  • Advanced Python , GUI scripting and the ability to follow strict coding standards
  • Strong English language proficiency
