What We're Looking For:

Skillz Director of Strategic Sourcing & Procurement will lead the procurement function. They will drive the strategy, process, and evolution of the procurement organization as we continue to scale and grow. They will both lead the team and directly help support all internal stakeholders with their purchasing requirements. They will collaborate with the Controller to set the direction for the function and help implement the necessary process and policy for compliance and public company readiness. Additionally, this role will drive stakeholder engagement and compliance throughout the procurement process ensuring projects align with corporate goals, procurement policy, and drive the most value-added benefits for the organization. They will be expected to grow the team to scale with the overall organization and will be responsible for implementing the necessary tools and technology to continue to drive efficiency and value.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading procurement organizations for public companies and preferably have experience transitioning a procurement function from private to public. They will have a proven track record of establishing procurement process and compliance with SOX and regulatory requirements. They will be able to cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to better understand and develop long term business strategies and efficiencies. Lastly, This resource should have great organizational skills and project management capabilities, able to self-motivate, be very process oriented, with a collaborative mindset and a focus on driving return on investment.

This role is part of our FP&A department, will report directly to the Head of Procurement, and will be responsible for supporting stakeholders across the organization from Engineering to Finance & Operations.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop, manage, and implement global procurement policies, processes and controls that increase procurement's influence and oversight.
  • Develop, manage, and implement a procurement scaled operations function focused on sourcing operations, compliance, approvals and agreement execution.
  • Develop and implement streamlined, scalable agreement administration processes and tools in collaboration with Legal and the business.
  • Develop a readiness training program related to policy and compliance.
  • Provide a program management framework and oversight over procurement systems and projects
  • Collaborate with legal, security and business technology partners to continuously improve terms in agreement templates and sourcing policies
  • Develop performance monitoring systems, and manage supplier performance to ensure that contract terms and conditions are being met or exceeded
  • Anticipate issues, challenges and requirements associated with our global economy as it relates to sourcing strategy.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on analysis, research, industry trends, benchmarking, and best practices
  • Closely collaborate with managers, sourcing professionals and decision makers to determine the long-term needs of the company and establish appropriate sourcing and procurement strategies and processes
  • Collaborate with internal business partners to understand demand and supplier trends to identify opportunities for better business outcomes
  • Identify potential areas benefiting from category management through spend analysis
  • Manage and grow a team of sourcing and procurement professionals in the development and execution of strategies and goals
  • Support Skillz approach to and execution of strategic sourcing: identifying spend opportunities, running sourcing events, leading negotiation, and driving targeted cost reduction and compliance processes; strategizing with internal stakeholders to meet their purchasing needs while prioritizing ROI, cost efficiency, and the best value solutions.
  • Lead Negotiations for key contracts and Manage strategic vendor relationships
  • Drive standardization of delivery and activities to provide efficient service.
  • Lead multiple work streams and/or project teams to execute against project plans.
  • Proactively manage relationships and expectations with internal and external stakeholders, including influencing at various levels of the organization.
  • Manage the CEO weekly deal review process for strategic projects
  • Promote, manage and deliver the continuous improvement of project activities and delivery focused on process, tools, and programs.
  • Provide thought leadership and perspective on P2P relative to industry best practices.

Your Skillz:

  • MBA or JD Preferred, B.S. in Finance, Economics, pre-law or related field
  • 15+ years experience in strategic sourcing and contract negotiations
    • 3+ years leading a public company procurement organization
  • Desired Certifications
    • PMP
    • CPSM
  • Experience in procurement transformation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of the contracting process and associated public company compliance requirements and regulations.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable principles, procedures, and standards.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to identify and secure alternative funding/revenue sources.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments and growth opportunities.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

  • Ability to assess contract compliance and product/service quality.
  • Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
