What’s the opportunity?

  • Develop a cloud-native online game infrastructure: You could build yet-another-backend or you could work in video games at a studio that understands and invests in solid, cloud-native internet platforms.
  • Work with an experienced, pragmatic team: We’re veterans of building the metal and cloud-based infrastructure that powered the world’s largest PC game. We have deep experience in creating and contributing to open source internet and cloud infrastructure.
  • It’s the right time to join this startup: Startups are hard and risky. Luckily we have an experienced team, world class investors and advisors, and a healthy runway. This is the magic moment, when risk and reward are properly aligned, to get in on the ground floor.

What will you do?

  • You’ll write code. Services, microservices, infrastructure as code…. although you’re focused on the cloud infrastructure, this is an engineering role, not merely operations.
  • You’ll develop a world class production and development infrastructure. You’ll help ensure the entire pipeline, from coding to staging to release, is scalable and efficient.
  • You’ll set the standards for operational excellence of a live service. You’ll teach, mentor and support engineers in how to support their own features and services in production.
  • You’ll leverage open source software and contribute back when possible.
  • You’ll participate in code reviews, write tests and assist in creating a healthy, humane, professional CI/CD development pipeline.
  • You’ll help to grow the engineering team and studio through mentorship, interviews, and constructive feedback. You’ll contribute more than just code to achieve our goal.

What experience should I have?

  • You have 5+ years of experience developing scalable backend internet services, preferably in Java or Kotlin, or in similar languages such as Scala, Go, or C#.
  • You’re a cloud native yourself. You’re competent with a modern infrastructure including AWS, docker, k8s, service meshes, etc. You may not be a network engineer, but you’re not above inspecting packets.
  • You’ve developed the product sense and judgement to know when to “build vs buy” solutions. You’re interested in solving problems, not just writing code.
  • You’re not above doing the dirty work. You’ll wrangle Jenkins. You love removing friction for other engineers and team members.
