Scopely is looking for a Director of Employee Relations with deep experience in building and leading teams, managing change, creating process, influencing and impacting high growth and dynamic businesses through effective management (both proactive and reactive) of a wide range of employee relations and issues. This person will be accountable for developing and managing a team, working with employees across organizations at Scopely, building trusted relationships quickly, and leading with warmth, empathy, compassion, and creativity to think inside of and outside of the box to drive the right solutions. This position reports to the Vice President, Diversity Equity Inclusion & Belonging.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads team and determines appropriate approach, interviews -appropriate parties in an investigation in review of concerns on matters related to policy or culture concerns/violations and workplace behaviors. Documents findings, maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality and demonstrates leadership to influence direction of initiatives and investigations
  • Assists with internal investigation of serious cases and implements appropriate remediation in conjunction with a business, region, or geography; may lead the investigations for a business, region, or geography where resources are limited; ensures appropriate documentation of issues is in place
  • Directs the analysis and resolution of issues with increasing complexity, visibility and risk related to policy, values or, cultural concerns/violations and incident or threat response, independently or by collaborating with managers, peers in Human Resources (HR) and Legal as appropriate; recommends solutions to address issues from a systematic perspective
  • Concludes investigations, using findings, relevant partnership with team, and knowledge of the relevant legislation / regulations and Scopely business context and organizational policies to determine a resolution to investigation of policy or culture concerns/violations and incident or threat response, and recommends corrective/disciplinary actions or processes, as deemed appropriate
  • Create change management strategies, plans, and processes to evolve the Global ER team in a way that reflect the culture of Scopely in key moments that matter for employees
  • Develop and implement various policies, processes and programs including investigations, employee counseling and engagement, policy interpretation and sensitive work-related issues
  • Partner with Scopely’s legal department to effectively support investigative processes of employee complaints and resolve conflicts, compliance, and sensitive work-related issues
  • Leads team and utilizes tools and resources to track, document work product and makes recommendations for refining, streamlining, and improving tools and their usage to improve future documentation needs
  • Identifies, raises, or escalates issues for trends in ER; partners with team and relevant HR partners to reduce ER issues for a business, region, or geography
  • Coaches team, employees and managers on navigation of ER processes, provides guidance, coaching or training through the ER experience, and acts as a sounding board for employees and managers on how to navigate work and handle themselves post-investigation
  • Consults with partners and stakeholders as subject matter expert on situations or issues providing best practices, influencing policy and observed trends. Use expertise to make recommendations for next steps, determine what would need to occur next and what best practices other teams should use to navigate the situation/concern
  • Provide one-on-one consulting/coaching with senior/executive business leaders, or by engaging relevant stakeholders and HR partners in capability building conversations
  • Guides and oversees the identification of needs to design and implement ER projects or programs (e.g., policy evolution, process, tools and partnerships with business and HR leaders; oversees project planning and execution
  • Gathers and interprets industry trends about Employee Relations programs and processes and identifies execution or communication gaps within a business, region, or geography; develops and proposes action plans to address the gaps in collaboration with peer disciplines (e.g., Human Resources Consulting and Business Partnership) and business leaders
  • Interprets and advocates Scopely values and compliance with Human Resources policies for a business, region, or geography; identifies/raises needs to mitigate potential risks by collaborating with the legal team; leads their team in the collaboration with peers in other businesses, regions, or geographies; provides guidance to create standardized/scalable approach for enhancing compliance
  • Identifies the strategy for the localization/update of policies and procedures related to managed projects and programs; gains approval from business leadership in partnerships with Human Resources policy owners and People Business Partners (PBP)
  • Partner and coach team and stakeholders on handling complex and sensitive workplace matters, managing conflict, investigations, coaching for managers on remedy and prevention of employee relations issues, inclusion, and other topics related to workplace effectiveness
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in assisting with developing curriculum that provides education and training in support of building organizational capability in the areas of Respect in the Workplace, Code of Conduct, employee relations, compliance , diversity , equity, and inclusion initiatives

Qualifications:

Qualifications include a minimum of 10+ combined years of directly applicable HR and Employee Relations experience with 5+ years of people management experience is critical. Other skills include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to partner with HR and legal teams to effectively manage and all types of employee relations cases
  • Excellent leadership capability to design, influence, and implement change
  • Excellent coaching, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills, including stellar communication, collaboration, case handling and project management
  • Analytical skills with ability to use data to form hypothesizes, draw insights, form narratives, prioritize, and influence decisions
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws and regulations and the ability to appropriately spot employment risk issues
  • Experience with a variety of issues such as harassment, discrimination, workplace violence, ethical issues, etc.
  • Ability to recognize trends and identify systemic approaches to solving problems
  • Ability to use experience and judgment to make decisions that may be based on partial information
  • Ability to be highly empathetic and comfort and experience dealing with ambiguity, change, and challenging problems
  • Strong diversity and inclusion acumen
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in a concise and understandable manner
  • Presentation skills and experience
  • Ability to work effectively with and build strong positive business relationships with a broad range of individuals with various skills and abilities throughout the organization
  • Experience building and driving results in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up (ideally has helped take from early to mid/late stage) as well as experience in more mature, mid-large size companies.
  • Ideal is someone who can bring speed and quality together, with an understanding of the broader implications over time of what they are doing and building.

Education And Experience:

  • BS/BA degree is required. MBA or MA in HR-related field, along with a PHR/SPHR certification, is preferred
  • Law degree optional
