As a Concept Artist at Riot you will bring our worlds and environments to life. Drawing inspiration from as little as a napkin sketch or as much as a full-blown narrative concept, you will generate ideas and craft designs that are resonant, compelling and iconic. As a problem solver, first and foremost, you will help come up with visual solutions for game concepts.

As a Senior Concept Artist, Environments on the Research and Development team, you will help create compelling environments concepts for an unreleased game project. You’ll use your solid understanding of world building, composition, design, color, and draftsmanship to develop worlds within the game as well as visually define the diverse environments that form the core-run experience of the game. Responsibilities will also include paint-overs on 3D mesh gray box as well as having a solid understanding of game-art production at scale to help the team with future production planning. You’ll work alongside other artists and developers in a highly collaborative environment and will report directly to the Art Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Art Director, Art Lead, and other concept artists to produce high quality concept designs that define the visual direction for the game
  • Leverage world building knowledge and expertise to push environmental limits while maintaining clear art direction and visual consistency
  • Create world-building concepts to broaden the visual languages and diversity of styles within our game to envision and drive future game content
  • Create mood-paintings and polished pieces that can align leadership and the team towards a clear visual direction/execution
  • Create thumbnails, sketches, rendered concepts and production turn-arounds to help facilitate asset production and outsourcing, providing iteration as needed
  • Execute paintovers over 3D blockouts that help further visual direction and visual fidelity of vertical slice assets and future production levels.
  • Work with the Art Director to develop and define a consistent visual style while working with other artists (including cross-team) to maintain cohesive project-wide art execution
  • Mentor and train more junior artists on the team while providing guidance and mentorship to our future interns
  • Work with outsourced vendors, contractors, and other partners to ensure visual quality in final asset execution as well as efficient concept-3D execution

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a concept artist in the games industry or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Photoshop and other relevant concept art tools
  • Proficiency in executing concept art fundamentals such as composition, design, color and perspective
  • Professional experience working in stylized game environments
  • Experience using 3D tools to create composition, shape, and lighting mockups (i.e. Blender, Maya, 3DS Max, etc.)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience providing feedback and briefs for art outsourcing needs
  • Experience working on a game at any phase prior to launch, especially on mobile platforms
  • Experience with the full game development cycle from prototype to shipping/live
  • Familiarity with game design fundamentals
  • Understanding of Asia and SEA markets and/or experience working with equivalent markets
  • Experience with streetwear and fashion

When submitting your application, please provide a portfolio of your high-quality environment concept art - including stylized artwork. And as a part of the application process, you may also be asked to complete an art test.
