As a Senior 3D Environment Artist at Riot Games, you will contribute to the creation of 3D Environments for projects, shaping visual experiences and assets that surprise and delight players.

As part of the Environment Art team, you will channel your knowledge of concepting, modeling, level editing and texturing to craft visually compelling narratives through optimized environments that align with design and technical requirements, enhancing the game's purpose and mood. Your strong understanding of structure, form, shape language, and design will be instrumental in building immersive new worlds. Furthermore, as a senior team member, you will mentor colleagues, fostering their growth and elevating the overall quality.

You will collaborate closely with the Creative Director, Art Lead, Environment Craft Lead, TA Lead, Delivery Managers, Designers, Engineers, and other artists to ensure a unified vision and shared priorities. Your role involves balancing aesthetic appeal with gameplay needs. Ultimately, you will be responsible for the complete creation of environments, encompassing modeling, sculpting, texturing, and lighting.

Responsibilities:

  • Reliably produce high-quality look and feel 3D Environment with exceptional visual representation, executing tasks independently and constantly raising or redefining standards

  • Create high-quality stylized 3D Environment assets from concept to in-engine implementation, aligned with the creative direction.

  • Help guide the look and feel of 3D assets ranging from hard surface structures to organic foliage

  • Influence level and 3D asset creation pipeline with your understanding of optimization to take into account efficiency and cross dependencies

  • Work with various materials from hand painted diffuse to PBR workflows

  • Proficient in lighting techniques and the aesthetics of light and shadow.

  • Interpret and push concept designs to the next level while taking into account technical and design constraints such as draw calls, poly counts, texture memory limits, and gameplay boundaries

  • Communicate with various other disciplines to ensure all assets are performant

  • Help guide and mentor members of the team

  • Solve complex production challenges, collaborate effectively across disciplines, and ensure all assets meet the project's vision and creative direction. Actively participate in optimization and iteration processes

  • Easily understand and clearly articulate the product’s distinctive visual style, while supporting and maintaining it

  • Consistently reflect and uphold company values in your work and interactions

  • Maintain high standards for work quality and output, while supporting team leadership in operational efforts

  • Assist team artists in skill development and maintain artistic consistency across the team

  • Help shape team initiatives and collaborate with the team to drive goal achievement

  • Proactively solve problems, passionately pursue creativity, and lead by example

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of work experience, with 8 years preferred

  • Experience in stylized art styles, proven ability to independently complete stylized production workflows

  • Experience in Maya/3D Max, Photoshop, sculpting tools like ZBrush, texturing tools like Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine

  • Experience in asset design and production

  • Experience in level editing, including scene editing, materials, lighting, and performance optimization.

  • Familiarity with the League of Legends IP and its style

  • Preferred Experience: NPR (Non-Photorealistic Rendering) and hand-painted textures

Desired Requirements:

  • Experience in early-stage production and development.

  • Shipped at least one game project.

  • In-depth experience with at least one mainstream game.

  • A portfolio showcasing high-quality stylized Environment assets is required.

  • Extensive experience working with various game engines, both licensed and proprietary.

  • Strong experience with modeling, sculpting, and texturing tools like Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Photoshop.

  • Proficient environment concept artist

  • Familiarity with other Riot IP styles is a plus
