As the Director of Business Development, you will develop the EMEA BD strategy and drive new business opportunities with strategic partners across EMEA, including Europe, Turkey, Russia, the Middle East and North Africa. You will build valuable alliances, provide excellent support to our sponsors and business partners, and drive revenue across esports sponsorship, esports broadcast licensing, and co-marketing opportunities for games and entertainment. As a member of the EMEA Publishing leadership team, you will drive cohesion across our disciplines and act as a sounding board for the efficacy and potential of new and renewed business opportunities.

As a Reading Rioter, you’ll join an international team of professionals who share our obsession with player experience.

The Role

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Publishing, Europe, the Director Business Development, EMEA is based in Reading, UK. You will be responsible for building and leading a diverse team and driving the success of Riot’s “player first” philosophy ensuring that our agreements with partners and sponsors positively impact player experience across the region. You will be responsible for the BD team, located in various offices around the region with sales, account management, product specific crafts teams, and BD operations connecting with global teams and other regions, allowing us to grow into a multi-product, multi-genre, portfolio driven company.

Responsibilities

  • Build and execute a holistic cross-market and cross-product partnerships strategy that complements global strategies and connects with players in the region in an authentic way
  • Develop and execute a sales strategy through effective media planning, pitch-book creation, production follow-up, and the development of account services
  • Leverage partners to continually develop all product brands, including the Riot brand and to amplify campaigns from country, over regional, to global
  • Generate significant out-of-game revenue through sponsorship and broadcasting deals; from sourcing, structuring and closing, through campaign implementation and partner retention
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective and current partners across gaming and non-gaming verticals
  • Build and manage a high performing team and balance goals across revenue, partnerships, and player value; regularly assess the team’s maturity, health, and composition; help your team members develop their craft and careers; relentlessly strive for collaboration across global, regional, and country teams

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of proven experience operating in a senior leadership role in EMEA or global BD management. You have a consistent track record of orchestrating, negotiating and executing large scale B2B partnerships, including licensing deals
  • You are an experienced internal and external negotiator, versed in complex deals and contract negotiations and you possess a sound legal understanding across a variety of different types of deals including sponsorships, partnerships and licensing, revenue models, market benchmarks, and trends. Strong ability to articulate and explain complex deal scenarios to senior partners who might not be involved in day-to-day operations.
  • Being an avid gamer and/or esports fan you have a strong understanding of how successful partnerships impact players and how different options for adding partners to our products create lasting value for players, partners, and Riot
  • You have prior sports or competitive gaming industry experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills: excellent ability to communicate effectively, whether across teams, borders, time zones, or desks
  • Experience with working across multiple teams in different disciplines and locations, with excellent relationship management skills
  • You have an existing extensive network of brands and advertisers across EMEA
  • Besides English you are multilingual, ideally in one of the main EMEA market languages (French, German, Spanish, Russian, Turkish, or Arabic)
