We’re hiring an Embedded Tester on a core level, one to strengthen our current team and prepare for the future. This is an exciting permanent role based in our studio at Twycross, UK working within the Sea of Thieves development team.

At Rare we operate differently in that we do not have a separate test organisation, but instead, a small quality-focused group who work within our dynamic and diverse development team. Embedded testers are as much a part of our development team as everyone else, to ensure that new features are designed and delivered to high quality with low risk.

A little about what we are looking for: You can be self-organised and work collaboratively across development teams. You are able to represent our customers and will assist in the planning, guidance and sign-off of new features. With your knowledge, you can suggest relevant test cases or automation where appropriate.

On a day to day basis, your role will be to evaluate upcoming features based on change, technical complexity, risk, schedule and resources, focusing your effort on the features under your ownership are delivered to plan.

You can expect a range of exciting challenges that will test and broaden your experience. You’ll be part of a team of friendly, highly talented developers who encourage the sharing of knowledge and support.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the planning, building and delivery of new features.
  • Highlighting areas of risk or test complexity.
  • Proposing mitigations or solutions to optimise the development process and ensure our players enjoy a great experience.
  • Promoting test and quality within the development process and actively seeking out tasks that would benefit from test input.
  • Ensuring Test processes allow the development team to iterate locally, rapidly and securely; finding issues close to creation.
  • Providing a positive and professional attitude under pressure, demonstrating integrity and being a role model for others.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Confident experience in agile game development teams with products shipped.
  • You have experience working with bug tracking solutions (preferably Azure DevOps).
  • Able to discuss the game development process with developers.

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS

  • Strong candidates will have some working familiarity with Unreal Engine and Blueprint.
  • Experience working within a development team, and close to other disciplines such as Engineering or Design is beneficial. Bonus: ISEB/ISTQB qualified.
