SUMMARY-GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Esports Head Coach leads the development of the esports program and oversees the esports teams, special events, and associated programs. The coach will plan and implement all aspects of the esports program. This includes the coaching and scheduling of games and tournaments, student/player recruitment and retention efforts, league guideline adherence, management of the esports spaces on campus, team travel, and additional duties within the Dean of Students division. This position reports directly to the Dean of Students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruiting and retaining students for the esports program
  • Conducting coach and instruction activities during training, practice, and competitions
  • Promote the academic progress and graduation of student-athletes
  • Ensuring team compliance with all leagues, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Management and upkeep of the esports spaces and equipment (PC hardware and software maintenance)
  • Coordinating team travel, if necessary
  • Budget management, reporting and data tracking
  • Running camps, clinics, and promotional events
  • Attending and representing the esports program at admissions and college events
  • Live-streaming of events and management of social media outreach
  • Pursuing sponsorship opportunities within the esports business world in collaboration with institutional advancement and information technology
  • Active involvement in campus life and student activities

Divisional Participation

  • Attend weekly divisional staff meetings and supervision meetings with the Dean of Students
  • Represent the division through committee work, other administrative assignments, and community events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Ability to articulate a vision for a premier esports program in a college
  3. Competitive esports experience and knowledge of a combination of the following titles, preferred: Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch, Fortnite, NBA 2K, FIFA, Madden, Hearthstone, Super Smash Ultimate, and Rocket League
  4. Experience recruiting high school and/or college students, preferred
  5. CRM and data tracking experience, preferred
  6. Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
  7. Excellent judgement, as well as problem solving and organizational skills
  8. Outstanding communication skills and the ability to inspire student-athletes
  9. Ability to work independently and resolve issues independently
  10. Ability to positively and professionally represent the College to a variety of constituents
  11. A self-starter with a positive attitude
  12. Strong marketing/promotional skills
  13. Proven record of leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship
  14. A commitment to diversity and inclusion

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typically working in a normal office environment. Position requires a full range of body motion, including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing and walking. May be standing/walking/sitting for extended periods. Flexible schedule, including night and weekend work required. May travel. May frequently lift 10/20 lbs. and may walk/bend in the performance of the job function.
