Puny Astronaut is looking for a talented Game Programmer to join our team in Dundee!

This is an excellent opportunity for a Game Programmer looking for a central role in an aspiring and creative development studio. You will have the chance to make a significant impact on our debut title, Skye, and all other projects you work on.

You will be working with a creative and driven team in a highly encouraging and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the design team and code lead to shape core features and systems.
  • Adapt and expand upon studio pipeline and coding standards to create spectacular and immersive games and experiences.
  • Constantly take performance into account so our games can keep meeting our ambitious performance targets, even on the lowest end consoles.
  • Write and develop robust maintainable code.
  • Implement features across current and next-gen platforms.
  • Identify and solve technical problems as they arise, including cross-platform issues, debugging, profiling and optimising for reduced memory usage and increased real-time performance.
  • Collaborate productively, communicating ideas and issues clearly across disciplines.
  • Be responsive to deadlines and work well under pressure, meeting multiple production objectives and deadlines.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year's games industry experience developing for multiple platforms on industry standard engines (Unreal/Unity).
  • Great working and technical knowledge of Unreal Engine with good understanding of blueprints and optimising code.
  • Excellent C++ programming skills with a familiarity of scripting systems like Python, Javascript/Nodejs.
  • Experience with current-gen consoles. Nintendo Switch an advantage.
  • Strong debugging, profiling and optimisation skills, specifically on low end devices.
  • Robust software engineering and software architecture principles and practices.
  • Good communication and team working with game developers from all disciplines.
  • Excellent initiative, self-motivation, organisational and problem solving skills, with the ability to both drive and follow direction.
