Senior Software Engineer - Game Services (Remote)

The fastest-growing High School and College sport in America isn’t basketball or football—it’s esports—and PlayVS is the official platform for High School and Collegiate esports. We offer an incredible, full-stack esport platform—game integrations, team building tools, leagues, tournaments, and schedules—and our software products tie everything together into a cohesive experience.

We're looking for an extraordinary Senior Backend Engineer to join our Game Services team. Our Game Services team helps scale competition on the PlayVS platform. This team works with leading game publishers to provide robust esports integrations for high school, college, and youth league teams. This team also leverages data insights to power scheduling, stats, and team pairings.

As a Senior Backend Engineer on this team, you'll be responsible for designing and building services to take our competitive esports platform to the next level.

Here's what you'll get to do:

Design scalable services using modern cloud infrastructure (AWS)
Work across product and engineering teams to build new platform capabilities
Write proposals and specifications for technical solutions
Identify bottlenecks and optimize code for performance
Write, audit, and improve our test coverage

Here's what we're looking for:

5+ years of backend development experience
3+ years of experience implementing and deploying microservices in a cloud environment
Experience programming in Typescript (or other strongly-typed language)
A proven track record of delivering scalable, optimized solutions
Team player who is able to receive feedback and challenge assumptions
Able to provide hands-on support when required to troubleshoot critical issues
Experience working in a dynamic, execution-driven environment
Committed desire to understand our customers
Possess a growth mindset: Live and breathe experimentation, data analysis, and ruthlessly prioritize for impact
Good verbal and written communication skills

Here’s what is nice to have:

BS/MS in Computer Science or other technical field
Cloud certification (or equivalent experience)
Experience with Machine Learning
Experience with Go and gRPC
